Help me design a box

Hey guys, I will get the dimensions for you tomorrow afternoon. I just need someone that is willing to design a box for me that I can build myself.

The subs I just ordered were 2 FI Q 12's. I got the high QTS option but believe I still want to go ported. On their webpage it recommends

" Ported box we recommend using 1.8-2.5 cubic feet @ 28-33Hz (I personally think that a 32hz tuning is optimal, and has the most output and is still the most musical daily driving). Use 12-16 square inches of vent area per cubic foot of volume."

So I would like to have it tuned at 32 HZ, and make the box have as much room as possible as recommended.

Like I said I will get exact dimensions later but the speaker box is going to replace the backrest of my rear seat in my Jeep Wrangler. Yes, I am taking out my rear seat and building a new rear seat using this speaker box as the backrest. This way I got 12's instead of 10's to fit in there and can go ported.

So the box will need to be down firing, 2 12 inch subs. I think I have 35 inches of width, about 14 inches of debth, and then I guess the height has to be whatever it needs to be lol. I will go out tomorrow and take measurements to get for sure. I just need someone willing to design me a box for now.

Thanks guys!

OK, I did some measurements. And I'd like to keep it as narrow as possible on the debth. Probably about 13". For the width I want it 35". Height preferably 22". The only measurement here that can be adjusted is the height but I would really rather keep it around 22-23" if possible. Plus I will have to add about 4-5 inches for posts on the bottom of the box anyway so it can hit off the floor.

So dimensions are preferably 35" wide x 22-23" high x 13" deep. Tuned to 32 HZ. If this will not work, or if you need to know anything else please let me know. If it is possible it would be nice if the subs were next to each other and there was just one port on one of the sides to make it easier to build? Or is that a bad idea? I don't know.

If you are up for building my box PM me and we will work something out. Thanks

How tall would it have to be to get the recommended 1.8-2.5 cubes?

Am I better off honestly going with a sealed enclosure? I just have a bad feeling it is not going to be as loud as I would like being sealed. But I did get the High QTS option just in case I used a sealed box.

I do like the low notes though, maybe it will hit lower in a sealed enclosure?

Thanks guys

P.S. - I had 2 12" L5's in here before in a huge box (prefab shit). I would be happy if it was as loud as them. I looked up the box today on those L5's and no wonder they didn't hit any lows I think the box is tuned to 42-43 HZ what a bunch of idiots. And yes I am dumb for buying it lol. I may have to build a new box for them sometime as well, thinking around 33-35 HZ?

So since that is 4.8 cubic feet. 2.4 per each sub... how much would it be after sub displacement and port area?
Thanks
Enclosure designers should be paid for their efforts. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Best case scenario, you're looking at 1.75-1.8ft^3 each. But with the high qts model you're going to want to go big and tune low, otherwise your peak is going to be too high above the tuning frequency and the low-end will suffer. I'd persoanlly go with something like 3ft^3 each tuned in the upper 20's to tame that big peak and move it down the passband to a respectable area. High qts value can be good for burp boxes(part of the reason why DD excels in comps), but I personally would not port a high q woofer with a low ebp value.

Thanks, looks like I will be going sealed then. Oh well, it will be easy enough to build like that and I can make the box smaller. The high QTS model will work well in the sealed boxes and still hit lows good right? I just hope it is almost as loud as my L5's.... but actually hit lows too.

How much do you guys charge for a box design? I may have you guys make one sometime for my L5's if I don't sell them.

sealed 2 dolla //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif ported for 5 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

No thanks guys, I think I can do the sealed box myself I don't have to tune it to a certain FQ. What is that foam stuff some people put on the inside of their boxes that supposedly makes it sound louder? Does that stuff work at all or is that just dumb?
