I have been running an Alpine SPX17-ref and would like to try out something a little better. I'm running active so I don't need xovers. Designing for SQ. I orginally asked about components but now I am looking at possibly piecing a nice set together.

Doors - Well Damped with Rammat and ensolite.

Install - Tweeter can be custom mounted if required for on axis aiming

Mid - Looking for something with really good midbass to blend with my SE's, and a warmer sound to it. I can fit from a 6.5 to an 8.

Tweeter - must be very detailed without being bright. More towards the line's of the Hert'z or Alpine's tweeters, not Focal.

Power - These will be run active via an MTX TE1004 which is 125x4 at 4ohm.

Budget - 400-500 for tweet and woofer

Would you recommend 2 pairs of woofers in each door? I have an 05 with factory bose (plenty of room behind the grille's), so that wouldn't be a problem. Remember this is geared more towards SQ than SPL.

Yes most definitely. If you have the money and resources to get them in there correctly, by all means go for it. (4) mids and tweeters total would be more than enough. And it would sound amazing that combo there would be perfect.

True, true. To sum it up, I'd like my speaker system to replicate the original source as much as humanly possible. In other words, I like a speaker that plays what it receives, whether it be good, bad, or otherwise. Or at least get as close as possible, that I don't have to EQ the hell out of it to get there.

You want better than your SPX-17REFs, but want the Alpine tweeter sound?

The old F#1 status was made from Scanspeak parts, look for them on madisound.

The characteristics of the Alpine Tweeter, yes. I like a warmer, more laid back tweeter. Do I want a tweeter that's better than the Alpine, of course.
