Science is everything
I have roughly a grand give or so to work with on this new computer. I don't game but I do use photoshop, autocad, and various movie editing programs. I already have two new Samsung monitors that I plan to use, also the mouse, keyboard, and speakers so all I need is the CPU and everything in it.

I made one on Dell.com just to get an idea of what I was looking at it came out to 13xx.xx Im sure you guys could make something better for less. Heres what I built on dell just to give everyone an idea of what I want. The build wont be until June but I would like to plan it out now so I can make sure I have the money. Thanks

PROCESSOR Intel® Core™2 Q6600 Quad-Core

OPERATING SYSTEM Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium

MEMORY 4GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs edit

HARD DRIVE 500GB Data Security DataSafe™ (2x500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)

OPTICAL DRIVE Dual Drives: 48x Combo + 16x DVD+/-RW w/ dbl layer write capable

VIDEO CARD ATI Radeon HD3650 256MB

This is what i am in the process of building:

EVGA 790i Ultra Motherboard

Intel Core 2 Duo 3.0 GHz (45nm)

4 GB OCZ DDR2 PC3 10666 (1333Mhz)

EVGA GeForce 9800 GTX - 512Mb

SeaGate 1Tb HDD (7,200rpm)

Samsung Super-WriteMaster CD/DVD Burner

Ultra X3 1000 Watt power supply

RaidMax Smilodon Mid-tower case

Windows Vista Home Premium OS

Depending on how well you search around, i found all of this for ~$1,300 shipped. Tiger Direct, NewEgg, and MicroCenter online FTW!

Good Luck!

Does your movie editing involve any rendering or so you do any graphic design?

Here's what I can come up with:

(2) Pioneer DVD Burners = $61.99 for both

Thermaltake Tsunami Case = $119.99 - $20 MIR

(2) Western Digital 640GB AAKS Hard Drives RAID0 = $259.98 for both

EVGA 8800GT 512MB = $189.99 - $30 MIR

G.Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2-800 = $76.99

Gigabyte P35-DS3L Motherboard = $89.99

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4GHz = $219.99

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Heatsink = $26.99

Vista Home Premium 32-bit System Builder Pack = $109.99

Rosewill 550w PSU = $56.99

Total: $1,199.64 (Shipped after MIR)

EDIT: I really believe this will be the best way you can spend your money. It's a well balanced system, of course not all 4 gigs of RAM will show up with a 32-bit OS, but ~3.3 will and if you ever switch to 64-bit you'll be set. Lots of storage for movies and way more than enough processing power (both GPU and CPU) to satisfy your every need. Of course it can be made cheaper with a lesser video card, but the 8800GT is an amazing deal. You can drop one DVD burner, but two is nice for CD/DVD direct copying.

For OP. These prices are as of now on newegg.com.

2x PHILIPS 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model SPD2413BM/17 - OEM ------ $47.98

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX All Solid Capacitor Intel Motherboard - Retail ----- $89.99

Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz LGA 775 Quad-Core Processor Model BX80562Q6600 - Retail ----- $219.99

Microsoft Windows Vista 32-Bit Home Premium for System Builders Single Pack DVD - OEM ----- $109.99

~880 (+/- $10) bucks with shipping from newegg. Still would need case/psu.... but you get the idea... also, the ram I put is a bit faster than what you put, but, theres too many options that you would just have to pick out... such as the video card.... LOTS of models with that same gpu.

I have almost hte same build with an 8800GT 512 video card. I would go with that considering they arel ike 160 now.

Also make sure you get vista 64 bit

EDIT: There was also a 750 gig Hard drive for 99 dollars on newegg this week. I forget which one though

Yup sure is, but mine will be staying in the box till I get this all built. I ended up getting it for 269.99 and I had $250 in BB cards from my last birthday I needed to use so I felt I got a decent deal on it even coming from bestbuy.

Yeah I saw the seagate 750s but they ran outta stock i think and I was also considering the 8800GT card.

As far as running 64bit, do you think i really need it. My buddy told me for CS# and Autodesk I would never use it
