you read correct. ive had my sub installed for about 5 days, and has been used for about 2 hrs total.

it was ran off of a hifonics tx1005d, which in reality pushes a lil over 900w instead of the stated 1000w.

my gains were set at 3/4 of max...so the sub was in reality probably seeing 800-850w. box size is 2^3 tuned to 30hz.

i have yet to take my volume level on my HU above 45 (out of 60), so it wasnt being pushed to its limits.

and what i dont understand is, alot of people are running their avas off of 1200-1400w w/o any problems.

how much is a recone or w/e to fix this? or do you guys think it'll be under warranty?

i didnt push the limits of this sub, nor did it didnt even see alot of play time. and as stated, ive seen people push a good 400w more to their ava than i do.

Sounds like clipping.

Setting the gain to 2/3 of 1000 watts does NOT mean you are sending ony 700 watts to the sub.

A Clipped signal could have sent ALOT more than 1400 watts to your sub depending on your pre-out voltage and if you had bass boost on etc.

it doesnt put out 1000w. the amps are known to be over rated.

gains were set to 3/4 of max, and volumes never went over 40 out of 60.

at 1st i thought it was my amp, because it went into protect mode, but immediately after my car stunk like something burning. i shut off the car, went to the back checked my amp, then my sub...and pushed on it softly. it was very rough and choppy when moving in and out.

and i never stated i was sending 700w...i figured the ava was seeing 8-900watts.

I have my gains below 50% and am getting full power...

You probably had your gain set incorrectly. So no you most likely did not blow it on 800 watts. You overpowered and clipped it.

Next time follow the gain setting tutorial...

You totally missed the connection he made.

3/4 gain does not mean that the amp will only output 3/4 of it's power. That's not what a gain is, and not what it does.

Go read the gain setting tutorial.

doesnt mater....the fact that your gains where up that high ....u could have introduced a clipped signal or some kind of noise to your sub with out u even knowing it....9times out of ten alot of sub failures happen becuz we dont hear them..the box sometimes makes them ineudible

what do you mean...i clipped it but didnt blow it? it smelt like burnt vc's, and when the dustcap was pushed on, it was pretty rough.

Having your gain to high probably clipped them. And sending dirty power to that speaker blew the voice coil. You did not "overpower" them. It was the clipped dirty signal you sent them.

You did not set your gains with a DMM did you?

Ok now that was mean...

Some where in the installation some one screwed up. Go kick his Ars!
