HELP! blew my ava off of 800w?!?

If you never have to turn it up past 27/62... thats also not too great. Ideally you want to have a nice powerful volume at 40 where the signal is about 2/3 of the way up.

nd thats where i usually have it at.

40/60

sending her out to get a recone monday. 50$ for a recone...and probably close to 80$ to ship both ways:( i was almost tempted to just say fu*k it and run to my local shop and get me a W7.

so turn all eq's to flat, and all boosts to 0..

use the DMM and find my correct voltage..

then what. set HU power to 2/3 of capabilities and start setting things from there?

the voltage should be set at 31.62v when i plug everything into the formula.

is it safe to go a little below 31.62 volts? im just trying to prevent anyyy mishaps for next time. i definately do not want to go thru this again.

if you blew that sub with that amp @ 27/60 volume, your gain was WAY too high... simple as that. btw, i dont see that thing costing but $18ish to ship each way if you use fedex ground.

it was set at 40/60 volume

and my gains werent notoriously high.

cost me 32$ to get my sub shipped to my house using ground.

Disconnect your subs. Set the Head unit volume to the max lvl you would listen to it at. Set all of your EQ settings to your personal taste. Always leave the boosts off. Now play a 40hz test tone on the HU on repeat. Set the DMM to AC volts and raise the gain untill you read 31.62volts. Connect the sub and bump some music

It is always safe to lower the gain just raising it puts your equipment at risk.

Or you could just read this darn thread, the first post.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

i did read it...several times. having direct help is alot more helpful as a whole than general info.

thanks for the help.

not if i set gains for max volume to be around that area....
Why? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

That just adds the risk of one of your dumb friends putting the volume high and totally clipping the bejeesus out of it. Not to mention that theres a reason it goes up to 62, you're just creating a higher noise floor by setting the gains higher to compensate for the lower signal input. I'd rather EQ it so that everything sounds balanced at the 40ish point.

when your friend ran it to thsoe other subs, was he using the same HU? If not hen all bets are off since your HU could be feeding the amp more voltage.

BTW my 75x2 amp can put out over 38V wich test tones and a clipped signal so your wrong assuming that the amp is not powerful enough to blow your subs.

I'm not gain setting expert, and I have a question myself..

Where should you set your volume to on the HU if the Pre-out voltage increase is NOT linear? (it is not lenear on my eclipse, I.E. at up top 2/3rd volume it is pretty linear probably get it about 2V with test tone, then the higher you crank the volume the larger the increase in pre-out voltage, I beleive between 76 and 80 there is HUGE increase in pre-out voltage

Also if your amp only has 2V sensitivity, you should also use a lower volume level on your HU correct?

And finaly, is it safe to listen to music above the volume level you set your gains to?

If you had the sub around play for 2hrs total you shouldn't of had your gains set so high. Seems to me like an improper break in. Maybe if you had a longer break in period you could of worked your way up to that. That ava shouldn't have blown off of 800w. I think your gains were set wrong, for break in. Some subs need to loosen the suspension a lil so they can handle the appropriate power.

This same thing happened to my buds Power Acoustik FUBAR. We were sending 500rms to it and lit up in flames. Gains were moderately a little over half. Got another one and lowered the gains a little, let it play for awhile. Then set the gains to where they were before. Sub works fine.

I did the same with my MTX. Now my gains are a little over 3/4. Been like that for 3mos now. With no protection, smoking of any sort or distortion. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

Good luck with your re-cone or next purchase.
