help a newb buy an amp

is this supposed to be a deal? //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif i can find it cheaper all over the net....
Like this: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11795_Kenwood+KAC-9104D.html

Of course their 2 ohm rating is a crack pipe dream. In real life, you will only get about 600 watts RMS out of it @ 2 ohms. Kenwood was sneaky in rating this product for CEA 2006 @ 4 ohms only:eek:

for 200 plus shipping (maybe 15$) i can sell ya a bnib KAC-9104D amp from kenwood that is designed perfectly to run your kenwood subs.
//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif hopefully karma catches up with this guy.anything i have for sale is only $100 more for you...

I have a excelon kac x1r it does 1200@2 about 15 hours of play time I can do $150 on,and your local so no shipping costs.
hmmmmm

how does this compare to this amp ?

http://www.audioque.com/aq/AQamps.htm

looks like a good deal compared to the prices i see for it around the net.......but would this be a good amp to power my subs ? help me make a decision //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

what does '1200@2' even mean?

This is one of those cases where I'll say that you will get rated power out of the Audio Que whereas Kenwood is real good at overrating most of their lineup. This makes it really tough to figure out which Kenwood will make rated and advertised output versus which one will not.

It all boils down to the question of how much money do you want to save? Also, if you plan on running any Kenwood at 1 ohm, be prepared to have an amp that thermals on you.... A LOT! Some of them have even been known to give you a whopping 15 minutes of play time at 2 ohms.

well it sounds like you know what you're talking about.

so can you please rec me an amp? b/c i pretty much have no idea wtf u just said.

what would u go with?

the hifonics?

the alpine one i posted?

the $250 one the one guy posted?

the kenwood excelon the guy just offered me a good deal on?

or something else? PLEASE HELP ME:confused:i literally cant make this decision on my own b/c i have no idea what to look for and whats good and what isnt, im a complete newb with car audio.

OK, you need 800 watts RMS @ 2 ohms. Out of all those choices I would flip a coin between the BXi 12xxd or the Audio Que 1200 because they will produce the power you need.

whats the BXi 12xxd?

and youre telling me that Alpine excelon that guy just offered me wouldnt be good for my subs?

or what about this one someone just rec'd to me?

http://cgi.ebay.com/Kenwood-KAC-9152D-1-800-W-Sub-Power-Amp-w-Remote-Bass_W0QQitemZ300309836475QQcmdZViewItemQQptZCar_Amplifiers?hash=item300309836475&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1234%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318%7C301%3A0%7C293%3A2%7C294%3A50

whats the BXi 12xxd?
Hifonics BXi 1206/1208/1210d since they have several different lines out there on the market depending on which year revision you want. 1210 is the latest model from them.

and youre telling me that Alpine excelon that guy just offered me wouldnt be good for my subs?
Alpine Excelon:confused://content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif WTF is that?

As I said in a prior post, Kenwood has a history of overrating their amplifiers. One of their amplifiers rated to produce 900 watts RMS @ 2 ohms, the KAC-9104d was measured to produce a whopping 644 watts @ 2 ohms (**click here** for proof). Sadly, many of the amplifiers in the Kenwood lineup are that way:(

i meant kenwood exceleon kac x1r that guy just offered to sell me, not alpine lol

so you're telling me either that hifonics or the audio que are my best bets? guess ill take your word since u seem to know what you're talking about.......

don't get the kenwood amps! like above post said spend a little extra for the audioque or the hifonics. you will be happier. also look in the classified section here. i got a mb quart 1200d for 160 shipped.

As much as I have trolled by ragging on Hifonics, they aren't that bad. One of my friends has been running a BXi 1606d for several years now. It even survived his last vehicle crash that resulted in a total loss of his 2006 Civic Si.

Regardless, I would run a Hifonics Brutus or Audio Que before I would run a Kenwood! Unfortunately, I have a long laundry list of amps that I would run before I make it to Hifonics or Audio Que //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
