H/U install issues

I've got a 03 Toyota 4runner equipped with the OEM JBL system. I have a Pioneer avh-p4300dvd head unit I just tried putting in. I have the Metra TYTO-01 harness and ASWC steering wheel control interface.

My first issue is that my volume seems very low. I've got to have it cranked up to 25-30 to be at "normal" listening volume. I know there's an adjustment on the TYTO, but messing with that seemed to make no difference. I'm wondering if maybe the adjustment knob isn't working, because it seems just like a buddies I did a few weeks ago when the know was turned down. Also, my volume keeps fluctuating up and down. I'll be listening and all the sudden I'll get a louder burst (not "loud", just louder than it was).

y second issue is the ASWC. I've got it hooked up just as shown in the manual. When doing the programming, I get the correct LED flashes for my setup. It shows to program, but then afterwards none of my buttons worked. I just did a buddies not long ago, so I'm familiar with the process. Only difference is he used the PAC interface and I used the Metra. I know his called for a resistor between pins 7 and 8 on the harness and the Metra doesn't. Could this be the issue? Any input is greatly appreciated.

im not 100% sure but for the volume issue you could try this. on gm bose systems the factory headunit controls the gain on the factory amp. so if you turn it to normal listening volumes on the factory radio when you take it out and install the aftermarket one normal listening volume will be well normal listening volume. so try that reinstall your headunit and turn up the volume. if that doesnt work then your facroty amp is probably messed up.

second im not sure what wires you have the steering wheel control hooked up to but you may have the wrong wire or maybe you have the wrong input on the radio perhaps.

Thanks for the advice. Plugging in the OEM h/u, raising the volume (practically maxing it out) helped a lot. For some reason when I am watching a dvd, I've gotta crank the volume up to get the same level as with the radio. With the volume maxed out, the dvd is loud enough to hear, but not as loud as I'd hope, This may be an issue with the actual player because all other sources are much better. I still think the adjustment knob on the TYTO isn't working properly, I'm gonna look into that some more. As I said though, it is much better than before and definitely something I can live with now.

Second issue with the ASWC was just a stupid mistake. It was late at night, freezing cold, and I rushed things just a bit and had the 3.5mm jack in the wrong input. Swapped that, let it auto-detect and everything's working great now.

OK, everything's wired correctly, but I'm having issues. The volume keeps fluctuating up and down, I get tons of static/distortion (even with the AUX IN), and even when maxed out the volume isn't very loud at all. I'm out of ideas. I'm thinking either the h/u or TYTO interface is defective. There's an adjustment knob on the TYTO and I can't tell that it's doing anything, so I believe that's my problem. Any thoughts? I really need to get this straightened out as I love the new h/u, but so frustrated I'm about to just throw the stock one back in and say to hell with it.

Its been my experience that ever since Metra and Axxess came together those units have been very hit or miss. If you can I would suggest you try out PAC units.

As for the low DVD volume, I'm not familiar enough with that unit but I know Pioneer normally has a SLA (Source Level Adjustment) setting that allows you to raise or lower the source volume such that you can make it bridge the volume gap between listening to CD/Aux and Radio.
