Gotta love the UAW

Do you guys really think $20/hr is that much money? I think the unions **** and they need to make some changes but $20 bucks and hour does not seem like shit to me that's what 40k a year?
Don't know the whole story, don't really care I just saw $20/hr thrown around a lot which is what I would consider the bare minimum to get by here.
not for someone doing unskilled labor imo. People are making on average less in a U.S. Honda plant and are getting by just as well. So to you and your lifestyle 20/hr seems like peanuts, but that isn't the point. The point is if they want to keep their unskilled jobs they NEED to knock it down a peg or to to compete with foreign auto plants in the U.S. I don't think anyone considers it a great salary/wage, but in relation to the job it is too much if someone else is doing it for less.

it also depends on where you live. 20 bucks an hour isnt shit on the coasts, because its extremely expensive to live there. a house that sells for 350k in florida sells for 200k in wichita ks. money goes a lot further here.

True, I wonder be interested to know what the jap car makers employing people in the US pay per hour for the same work.
It isn't really all that much less. Last figure I remember seeing was like 18.50/hr. With most making 35k/yr on average. Now I am not sure on the benefits package at all though.

I think most people understand why foreign auto companies decided to locate their plants in places like TN, AL and MS. These areas are historically not too sympathetic to unions. So, if you are an autoworker in a location that has a history of having auto plants, you can already thank the union for the foreign plants being located elsewhere.

And they're communities are usually hurting to begin with so any job is better than no job.

I think that it is not just the hourly wage that you have to look at, it's all the asinine demand the union makes that end up being written into the contracts. It's the cost of having to deal with workers through a union rather than directly.

Looks like bush is going to bail em out with the 700 billion earmarked for the finance community //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif
Well, I trust Bush -- he is vewy smart man.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

What do you think Obama's "public works" idea for the economy

is all about? It's going to strengthen the unions even if they are losing

money somewhere else.

I can't wait for Lugnutz to come in and defend this stupidity. There has to be some logical explanation he can give me.
I have no problem with the tax payers paying more for bankruptcy procedures and paying for my family's pensions and health care. Without the Big 3, I would qualify for government assistance and will knock up some broad and draw Medicaid, WIC, food stamps and any other assistance.

Also the UAW said they were looking to cut wages in the next contract in 2011 so your thread is misleading //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And labor cost only about 10% //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
