Gotta love the UAW

I guess it just depends where you are. I make close to 14 an hour, so close to 25 plus a year and I get by just fine in Ohio, but 14 wouldn't do shit over by you.
My mom was making 28 an hour at Delphi before she took the buy out and retired.......actually she took the retirement plan where she gets 1200 a month plus her benefits. Not sure how this will turn out for her if there is no bail out. I want to see them fail, but I don't, because I am afraid she may lose her 1200 a month, which she relies a lot on.
My grandmother retired from Delphi a few years before they did the whole buyout thing and just like you I would love to see them fail also but I'm concerned for my grandmother and how these concessions will affect her. The crazy thing is even though GM got the money there are still thousands of ppl who will be laid off for months, even a year. The fact still remains that ppl can't afford to buy cars right now and the ones that can are having trouble getting credit approval. Which means cars aren't selling and the demand isn't there so more layoffs more plant closings.

Until your in the situation of making close to 70,000 a year and going down to 20,000 dollars a year, then you just can't understand
In a competitive environment a job wouldn't pay 70k/year if others were willing to do it for 20k/year. Sad story and all about your mom but to be frankly honest she has been overpaid her entire career and just highlights the fundamental problems with labor unions. Same can be said for the airline industry and some parts of the medical industry.

There is no reason why my uncle should be making close to 500k in anesthesia working under 40 hours a week and my aunt is running the ER ward working close to 80 hours a week and making 150k. Granted both are high salaries but specialists in the MD community are way overpaid.

Hah, silly argument. So if they happen to be working on an Escalade they should be able to comfortably afford one of those?
Indeed. To put it in perspective for this douche, I owned a brand new GTO along with a nice home and make less than many legacy GM line workers. So his argument is extremely retarded.

Do you guys really think $20/hr is that much money? I think the unions **** and they need to make some changes but $20 bucks and hour does not seem like shit to me that's what 40k a year?
Don't know the whole story, don't really care I just saw $20/hr thrown around a lot which is what I would consider the bare minimum to get by here.
I bought a house on that. That is slightly less than what I make.

I have no problem with the tax payers paying more for bankruptcy procedures and paying for my family's pensions and health care. Without the Big 3, I would qualify for government assistance and will knock up some broad and draw Medicaid, WIC, food stamps and any other assistance.
Also the UAW said they were looking to cut wages in the next contract in 2011 so your thread is misleading //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

And labor cost only about 10% //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
Already explained...the pension is capped and controlled by congress. The health care would be under Medicare vs. what they get now.

It's not just cutting wages. I'd like to see you explain how this "job bank" thing is a good idea for the company.

Hah, silly argument. So if they happen to be working on an Escalade they should be able to comfortably afford one of those?

I wish. I would be able to go anywhere in the world in less than an hour.
