Got to get a LOC, really need some suggestions/help

Is this one nice? and what's turn off thump? Getting a fancy line driver is a little outta the budget anyways, so it's nice to hear I wouldn't have to get one. I'd definitely be looking into an Audiocontrol, if I had the budget. lol
I had the Navone LOC running my front stage for a while. It works well and the built-in remote sense is a bonus. For $25 it's hard to beat.

Turn-on thump or pop happens when the source (like a line driver or LOC) puts a pulse out to the amp when the device turns off. I had a PAC preamp that did that real bad. And coincidentally, Audiocontrol gear is famous for it. My EQL makes a pop in the main speakers when the remote shuts off. Very annoying. I can accept that from a $20 preamp, but not from supposedly "high end" audio gear.

I'm using a PAC unit in my GTO. Works well, but the Audiocontrol unit would be a lot better.
if i had the money for an Audiocontrol, I'd get it. lol

They have to be certified to work in the car audio bay...
That's where I had mine installed.
You sir, just taught me something i didn't know. And I'd go there, but the closest one is 2 hours away. I live in a small town

I can't tell if that's sarcasm or not, but anywho...

You have to be MECP certified.

The guys at my BB are all MECP Advanced certified.

MECP = Mobile Electronics Certified Professional.

no, not sarcasm. But I think I have an LOC in mind, so I won't have to go/call there, thanks

you receive a turn on thump because of the speaker output is based to 1/2 of the battery voltage. When the head unit turns on the voltage on the speaker wires goes from 0v to close to or around 6v. Its not a matter of if its a matter of when this happens, there will be a loud pop. this happens only if you use the positive speaker wire and ground for the signal. Some amps have a long turn on delay and you wont hear the "pop" but there could be a turn-off pop.

i've used Navone products with good success. IMO the best LOC available that is not built-in. that it generates an amp turn-on is a excellent feature.
Thank you, this really helps my search!

Okay, that answers some questions I had. Thank you

As you said, most times we don't hear turn on pop because of the amp's turn on delay. And most amps have a "soft start" feature.

Turn off pop is a bit different. An active LOC has its opamp biased to 1/2 the battery, with a capacitor to decouple that from the output. When the LOC's power disappears the coupling capacitor discharges through the amp's input resistance. If the amp is still active (power supply not yet discharged), you get a pop or thump through the speakers/subs.

Dealing with this can be a real PITA. My Audiocontrol EQL does it (no excuse IMO) and I have to put a relay between the EQ and amp inputs to disconnect them when remote drops out.

Passive LOCs that are just transformers don't do that. And good LOCs like the Navone unit don't either.
