got my SX18 metered...i cried

A bigger woofer doesn't always mean it is going to be louder than something smaller. You have to take into consideration what type of amp you can afford to put on the woofer, and if you can fit the recommended box in your vehicle. I know a friend that did a 10" Solobaric L7 in a Honda CRX in a 1.75 cu ft. vented box and it did a 139.3 It was a daily driver and you could listen to music through it. Not a burp vehicle. Another one of my friends has 2 JL W7 10's and he did a 144 with them in a nissan hardbody truck. It all depends on your box and your amp. If you aren't going to give your subs 75-100% or RMS power.....there really isn't a point in doing it. It is better to have more than enough power than too little. When you have too little power most people turn the gain up on the amp and crank the system louder. This causes more distortion and speakers don't like that. Anyway...just my 2 cents.

the rest of the story about my re sx 18 and my 2500d,the 2500d ended up killing it,i wouldnt put over 1200rms for daily, more for a burp

I wouldnt say it was dead, considering that it is riding in a guys mazda right now with a BXI1606d on it no complaints. And before you had the Orion on it, it was on a Hifonics XXHercules(at least 2KW) for a month in 14 cubes at 28Hz. So I think they will take some powa:) .

when the shop guy tested your set up did he burp it or just play a tone? when i get metered, i turn my amp's gain to 1/2 (usually have it at 0) and my volume to 30 (out of 33) and burp my tone at those settings. 1200-1500w you should have no problem doing low to mid 140's.

not a big fan of that amp. i had one hooked up to a pbx15 at 1ohm and it only did .2dB higher than my 1200w amp does at 1ohm....same setup.

Well that setup did a 143.9 on a new TL at 34hz. It was backed up by a 200A alt, a yellow top under the hood, and a Kinetik 2400 at the amp.

Well, I went and talked to my buddy thats fixing my amp for me and he told me that it needs a new transformer. He called Hifonics and they gave him a number to call and he called them and told them what he needed and they said that they would call him back. Well they havnt yet, he said he will try again today.

Idk if anyone here would have a spare dead Brutus 1800D laying around here with good transformers??? Or could I possibly pick one up at a Radio Shack? Prolly not the best place to get one, but its the only place that I think would have stuff like that.

I highly doubt a toroid failed, its not like physically possible unless it breaks off a lead or melts into a pile of metal. He probably meant one of the switching FET's of the power supply stage of the amp. That makes 1000% more sense //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

and no, you wont find much at radshack, maybe some crapy 5% resistors //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

If your ever wanting to send your amp off, dont send it to K&B or Amprepaircenter, doing so to either will yield you less than successful results, and probably will never see your amp again.

CIA Engineering is a great place though, they're a service center for Maxxonics anyways.

The problem I had before was I was putting it in my truck going to hook up my brahma i had and it played fine and then seems like all of a sudden it just shuts off and then everytime i would turn the h/u on it would show power and then go into protection. The sub wouldnt pop or anything.

He has had it for about 8 months now, I gave it to him told him what it was doing and told him just to mess with it in his spare time as I was in no real hurry to get it fixed due to lack of space in my other truck. I only had a reg cab truck at the time and no room for a big system and I bought the amp for a steal. Now that I have the room I really need it back, so I really need someone to fix it. Im about to go up there now to talk to him to see if he has got in contact with hifonics.
