Good sq 10" sub for 0.85 cu ft sealed box? Did I make a mistake with Memphis PR?

Current setup in 2008 Ram quad cab:

Oem REC NAV head unit

6x9 Nakamichi coaxials front doors

5.25 Memphis coaxials rear doors

Center seat 0.85 cu ft sealed down-firing box (Boyd Audio)

Infini 5761a 6ch amp with ~50 watts to each spk, 250-280w rms bridged 4ohm to sub

Now onto my subwoofer question...

Have been running a Kicker S10c (old school round solo baric) for a few years and well over 100k miles of pretty constant use...sub always sounded fantastic and hit low notes very well, even though box was larger than specced (.85 cu ft vs recommended-by-kicker .66 cu ft). Finally blew the sub a couple weeks ago and started looking for a replacement...

Local stereo shop recommended Memphis PR 15-10s4v2...had it installed under the agreement that if I didn't like it, could exchange for a different sub. At first noticed that the suspension was ALOT stiffer than my old Kicker ever was. Sound quality & volume are okay at mid bass frequencies, but this thing doesn't get anywhere near as low as the Kicker Solo. So far sub has been run at low-to-medium volume for a couple hours, and I've been hoping that it will "break in" but no such luck so far.

Should I continue to run this thing for a while and expect it to loosen up, or just dump it for another sub?

Not after the loudest woofer out there, but definitely want quality sound (for an oem HU source) and the ability to hit the lower freqs at least as well as Kicker did.

Depending on how much you want to spend, the PHD FB 10.1 sub might be right up your alley. They are rated at 250 rms and are single 4 ohm voicecoils.

These subs are super efficient and dig down pretty low. The MSRP of the sub is $370, I am sure if you are willing to spend that much, you will fall in love. These are easily comparable to a Morel Ultimo SC if not slightly better than them.

Honestly I wound try a kicker comp 10 they like bigger boxes like u have and my last pair I had would drop down to 28hz easily but they were in a 2.26cube box which is slightly bigger than your box per sub. But for the 50 bucks you can buy them for really aren't out much if you don't like it. And the old ones only needed 150w. This years model I know nothing about other than they upped the power rating to 300w.

I fell like a noob every time I recommend the comp but I was honestly impressed with my one and only kicker setup which was 2 comp10s on a mtx ta7804 at 2ohm dual mono so like 800w

Thanks guys. Not looking to spend so much on a sub, as it isn't really an audiophiles quality system. Just want something that sounds good & deep. Looking at 100-150 price range

Have read GREAT things about the Daytons, and specifically that the HO is better suited to a smaller box than the HF. Before I go this route, is there any hope for my Memphis PR loosening up to hit the lower notes? Also, how does the Memphis M-Class woofer (not mojo) compare for my application? Only reason I ask is it would be a hassle free swap since my shop mainly sells Memphis.

Thanks!

Thanks! Will give those a look too.

Anyone familiar with the Memphis brand? Are the PR series supposed to be this mid-bassy in a slightly larger than spec sealed box (Memphis claims 0.74 cubes sealed while mine is .85)? How about the M-Class 10, which calls for right around a .85 cube sealed box?

Work doesn't leave me much time to fudge around with my truck, and it would be ALOT easier to just have my local shop take care of the issue if it doesn't correct itself. I just find it hard to believe that the PR series (which seems to be well liked in the budget sub class ~$80) lacks so much on the lower end. I HATE not being able to hear notes that I know are there

Either this Memphis PR is a piece of crap, or the old Solo is just that good and has spoiled me...

In my opinion, the PR's are crap. But, the M-Class is a great sub, especially for SQ. I've heard them get pretty low. They are a bit overpriced though.

The mclass isn't going to get that low in a sealed box. The only reason Memphis won sq comps with that sub was the ported boxes they had tuned to 29hz

Try and find a Mach5 ixl prolly the best sealed box sub for the money or wait for the stereo integrity bm mkiv which shouldn't be too far from production

Or just say f it and go buy a jl w6, tw3, tw5
