Good 18" subs for around $350

It's not the coils problem it's the stiff SUSPENSION with double rated power. I personally haven't had the problem but there has been more than enough on the soundqubed only fb page with plenty of people who have had the problem. I don't know the science behind it and I'm sure plenty of yall will dispute the fact that it wasn't caused by a stiff suspension.
Coils aren't burnt everything looks fine until you pull it out and coil is unwound.
So what is it about a soft suspension that makes a coil take double rated power?

Sounds to me like the same old Audioque "break in" myth being used to weasel out of warranty claims on the HDS series when the cheap Chinese coils they use turn into a slinky. This has been going on for years.

Your probably right. Just found it odd that the only problems I have seen have been on the hdc3 subs. Maybe with the stiff suspension they can't cool themselves properly with that much power and it just melts the clue away. I have no clue or proof to that.

Wtf is this crap about xmax being the only factor leading to "lows" whatever that implies? Y'all throwing these subs in sealed boxes? If not then displacement is only a small part of the puzzle. Box and other T/S are more important.

You say your motor is 3 inches from top plate to bottom plate. Your saying you can use all 3 inches. For your subs to actually work the coil would have to sit at least half way into the motor which would be 1.5 inches. I would love to see a sub with 6 inches of X max. Hell even the big sundown subs only have a 4 inch X max.
I'm not saying it will move 3"

The soloX motor will only be able to use half of it's mechanical room if that. It's nothing different or magical

Yeah, "break-in" period is garbage

Cutting corners to make a cheap sub that looks like higher end stuff is what soundqubed is after. You're right, you have no proof of that. My N3's had the stiffest suspension I've ever felt. A couple forum members on here can vouch for that. They had no problem with cooling.

Soundqubed uses cheap chinese coils. It's the way it is

More cone travel is more better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

Try and play below 30hz with a single-stack magnet subwoofer. Let me know how that does

Depends on box tuning. Your sub's cone will travel the least at tuning.

More cone travel can be better(and generally is), but it isn't the sole indicator how well a sub can play dem lows. That depends on the acoustic characteristics of the entire system(sub, box, and cabin) when you throw it in any ported alignment you are trying to dictate its harmonic motion.

Yes, it's most efficient at tuning and moves the least. I get that.

Most people play music below their tuning frequency. I'm tuned to 27, but will play songs down to 23hz at the lowest

I say try playing below 30hz with something that has no excursion

No excursion? You don't have a speaker then. I say take a sub with a small amount of excursion (

I get it xmax can be useful, but again it's only part of the story.

Next people will start saying FS shows whether or not a sub plays low...You are saying that a sub with little excursion physically can't play low notes correct?

This earbud manufacturer must be absolutely nuts. They claim an FR starting at 15 hz, They surely don't have anywhere close to 20mm xmax!!!!

I just got a pair of audio technica cor150 IEMs just for gym purposes, didnt expect much but holy sh*t it played decaf, slow n throw all the way down to 25hz with great authority... While maintaining amazing soundstage and clear+detailed mids. Sounded way better than more expensive klipsch and bose stuff. Yeah a lot more goes into playing lows than equipment. The guy's young he still thinks gear is the way to go.

I've been looking for a budget pair to use on the go and AT has been one of the brands I've seriously considered. My currents ones have developed a short in the right bud. It's nice to have a first hand account. :)

Yeah, it was pretty decent out of the box. Kinda harsh in the 6-9khz range at max volume but EQ fixed that right away on my jet audio app on my note 3(didnt notice this with apple phones and devices though) I cranked up the 12khz and up range also. Didnt need to eq anything else after that. I got it for 15 bucks at frys, beats out my sol republic, my grampa's klipsh S4s(he was kinda pissed when he heard the price)
