Good 18" subs for around $350

I know Brian G. is all about getting loud and making good numbers. Not so much into the whole wind tunnel with lows thing so the Solo X is the perfect motor for him.

I'm bout' to trade my Z's for some supergauss 18's

Hdc3 is 329 shipped. Sundown is nice but prices are questionable. No I'm not broke, just don't like over spending. Yes I think the Sa18 will do a smaller box but how long will last at double its rated power + (assume say 1800-2000rms after ride daily)
wtf....don't ever question Sundown.

Don't solo Xs like HUGE boxes? It is kicker afterall
All big subs need a large box. Solo X is actually pretty decent, I've owned a few and seen a few locally performing pretty well. IIRC the guys who built custom round subs with those motors put an awful lot of money into doing so. That said, I got mine on Craigslist for @ 300$ each so if you get lucky and have one near you don't rule it out.

Otherwise I'd say the Eclipse Ti would be great 4" coil and the motor and frame alone are worth an easy 250$ even if you broke the sub and just tore it down for parts. Also 4hp motor is a great platform if you ever wanted to switch top assemblies and do something else with it or build custom.

Hdc3 have a problem taking double the power IF you don't let the suspension loosen for a few weeks. Coils will come umwound.
Please explain how a few weeks of play makes coils not slinky when you throw double rated power into them?

It's not the coils problem it's the stiff SUSPENSION with double rated power. I personally haven't had the problem but there has been more than enough on the soundqubed only fb page with plenty of people who have had the problem. I don't know the science behind it and I'm sure plenty of yall will dispute the fact that it wasn't caused by a stiff suspension.

Coils aren't burnt everything looks fine until you pull it out and coil is unwound.

wtf does not having a stiff enough suspension have to do with the subs not being able to take double power??

believe it or not people do that all the time. You just gotta know what your doing, and with a clean signal.

I had two solo X 18s... Stock they will play plenty low. You ppl are to funny. Oh the motor isn't deep the woofer won't play low.
Well, there's not as much room for the coil to move rearwards.

Your saying that doesn't affect it's ability to play super low at high excursion?

The suspension is too stiff before "break in" and causes problems.... Honestly I don't it could have been a bad batch, they might have switched coils for cheaper ones at some point, hell the people could have been lying about what they were really doing with the sub. It just seemed that the HDC3 was having problems with it. Not the HDC4 or any other one of their models.

Just saying look into before purchasing the hdc3 subs.

30mm is 1.181 inches. Also X max is linear. Your measuring xmech which would be a mechanical limitation
So the "1.5" inches your z has is pretty close.
3" depth, not 1.5.

6" would be x-mech for my motor, even though that's completely unrealistic because of the coil length. Can't bottom it out on the back plate

You say your motor is 3 inches from top plate to bottom plate. Your saying you can use all 3 inches. For your subs to actually work the coil would have to sit at least half way into the motor which would be 1.5 inches. I would love to see a sub with 6 inches of X max. Hell even the big sundown subs only have a 4 inch X max.
