Girlfriend getting new car! READ

^^ for 4 grand i doubt you canf ind one
everyone quit recommending old american cars, they're like a double whammy. first off they're american, and they're already old, it's just gonan cr@p out before you even know it lol. stick to your asian imports with low miles (though mazda had a checkered reputation in the 90s) and you should be fine. someone made a sad face next to a civic, too bad it's more practical and reliable than 90% of the suggestions given

friend of mine had a 91 corsica with over 225,000 miles, yes got to love those crapy american cars.

A Ford Taurus SHO 92-96
Stay far away from the third gen SHOs. Most have never had the cam issue taken care of. The sprocket walks and crunch! Your 3.4 V8 is now toast, and you have a $15K replacement cost for the engine.

If your girl can find one, a 1994-95 SHO auto would be the way to go. If she can handle driving a stick, then 1989-1995 had those. Watch out, though. The SHOs can cost an arm and a leg to keep in good condition if the proper maintenance wasn't done over the years.

Check http://www.shoclub.com classifieds or http://www.shoforum.com classifieds and look for cars that have a 60k completed.

Otherwise, there is nothing wrong with the standard V6 Taurus. Just avoid the 3.8 liter engine. A GL or an LX is a nice car and fairly reliable, plus it has a 5-star safety rating.

Hope this helps!

Now now, the engines can last over 250,000 miles. A member of SHOforum in TX has already surpassed 270k with only preventative maintenance. The transmission, if an auto, could always use a shift kit and a computer upgrade to the D4U1. The manual has lots of great parts available from http://www.midwestsho.com and other stores.

However, Joe Schmoe who doesn't flush his transmission, change his oil regularly, perform preventative maintenance, and avoid trying to do burnouts all the time... well, Mr. Schmoe will grow to hate the SHO.

i wouldent get a ford taurus, even if its a SHO, regular tauruses are alright, but they are junkbuckets, and SHO's are fun, but kinda high maintainence, difinately check out nissan altima, sentra, and maybe maxima, and hondas and toyotas are always great, i wouldent even bother witha domestic

SHO's are nice, but there engines and trannys dont last long.. but i do like the sound of them... there pretty fast for a family car
mines got 198000 miles and its only on its second clutch, and the engines are excellent and indestructable, i dont know about the ****** though, its iffy
