Getting out of the military.

It depends where you are at...
I can leave right now if I wanted to.
I could quit...if that's what you mean.

Our shop is very small...if one person is gone, there is trouble.

I have been in a training class all week. I have to stop by the office before and after 8 hours of training to do work.

I didn't mean quit I mean if I felt sick I could just tell my boss and take Sick leave. The only time my shit gets fucked up is if I am TDY for an extended period of time. In all I dont really care for being on the GS side. I want to go back to the Wage side.

How is GS different that WG? I have only been under GS.

Technically, I could leave with sick time. But that doesn't mean your supervisor won't make you feel like shit about it.

Yes. There is good stuff about being govt now.
How do you like NSPS vs. GS?
It has it's ups and downs if you know what I mean. Good part is that I am equal to a 7-10 so I could jump up to a 11 or 12 position without any limitations. The evaluation system is fuxord up I think. I mean all the 12s and above get the decent bonuses. Plus if one person in your food chain doesnt care for you he can take everything to include not giving you your step increase. I have many more complaints about the system but dont care to elaborate right now.

Fuck NSPS

Think of GS as white collar and WG as blue collar. WG's step out in 6 years because they only have 5 steps. I like it better because it is easyer to move up through the ranks unlike GS. There are only 6 GS employees at my shop but 20 something WG's. Well I really think it's just that I want to get away from NSPS more then anything.

My best advice is to apply for disability no matter how well you think you are/aren't.
I'm thinkin of getting out and thats what everyone is telling me, how do you go about getting disability? I dont want to go screw over the gov for money I dont deserve, but how do you know if you deserve it? I've noticed small things like stabbing pains in my left shoulder when standing at attention for long periods of time 30+ minutes and small stuff like that...

They say you can make more than your step potentially. However, the way I understand it, all the "step raises" are combined in a pool and doled out as someone deems necessary...which means some get their step and some don't....all in all a zero sum game.

I hope I don't get converted.

My career field is white collar.

Yes you can come out on top. Instead of me being a 7 step 1 I came in making equal to a step 4. My supervisor is in a 12 slot but since he is NSPS he makes more then a GS12 he makes what is equal to a 13 step 5 so yea you can make out but the whole pay pool deal is dumb.

I am a GS-9...should get my 11 soon.
In 5 years, I hope to get a window. Someone has to die or retire though.
what step are you? There is GS-9 position in my office open right now that they want me to fill but the other 2 guys that work in my office are like you said. Basically they are military in civilian clothes, I even keep up with their training they have to do which is the same as mine. Its a GS-9 step 10 so the pay is pretty high though.

I was in for 7 years active 3 inactive duty. I was 11 series and 18 series. I had a difficult time finding gainful employment (killing is not all that marketable apparently). I finally got a Tool & Die apprenticeship at this crappy place i worked for. Then i got my current job making over 60-65k.
