its funny, this is the same issue i been messing around with all week... i've tried my speakers in like 5 positions each from up high to down low and the best thing i've come up with (at least for my car) is everything in the kicks... on axis to the driver, or if you want both... then aimed towards center of the car
having either of the speakers up high on the drivers side seems to compeltely dominate my soundstage, and even with TA.. its able to be localized and doesnt sound right where its coming from.. another problem is the dash.. if oyu got mids down low and tweets up high.. the dash kinda seperates the sounds isntead of letting them blend in...
and ontop of that i figured out it seems to sound best to me, if both speakers seem like there coming at you from remotely the same angle... which is easier done, the further they are from you
speaker height doesnt matter so much on the passenger side because by the time it gets to the driver.. its had time to develop and spread out.. and usually has less stuff in the way on its journey, it has time to raise in height... direction is more important
distance is the most important thing in making a system sound good and being unable to localize any specific speaker.. imo...
the one thing i did like about having the speakers up high tho is, it does make it seem harder to localize the subs
