Everyone saying that AQ's have terrible SQ when they haven't even heard them themselves.

OP, the HDC3 will sound plenty clear for your ears. Just make sure you are giving it the cleanest signal you can and the enclosure is built correctly.

Id trust buying my type r's over some random person selling them on ebay.

I have some aq hd3s and they dont sound bad at all either.

Op said hes looking more for spl than sq too.

To each his own.Everybody has their preference,but if it were me i'd cop the type r's for 150 its a good deal,and they get plenty loud as well.

I know there's lots of budget thread, and I have went through and read a lot of them. Basically I have 400$ and from what I've seen I can get a used alpine type R for like 80-100 bucks on ebay. Mix that with a hifonics amp(not sure what exact model), could that be a sweet system? Better than my 2 12" volfenhag's with a zx250.2 amp, right? I would get 2 type R's tho and that means two hifonics amps I think. If anyone has any better suggestions for the money, That would be appreciated. I will be hopefully getting a design for 5-10$ and making my own box. I always like a good deal so if there is something just as good or better for less definitely let me know. Do I want a system that can break my windshield? No. Do I want a system that can maybe make my roof do the wave (shouldn't be too hard, i'm in a tiny mustang lol). Yes. Would love to know some things from you guys and any help you provide will be great. comes to $399.82 all shipped, and with that amp..you can add another one of these subs and enclosures, and run at a 1ohm load on a pair of subs when money is saved.That amp will give you plenty of head room/power for the one sub,or a pair..Just my recommendation s to you for the under /at your budget:santa:

Im not saying the hdc3's are bad subs at all,Im just saying the type r's sounded better in terms of SQ.That being said if OP's looking for more spl then the hdc3 may suit him better.

Of course you can build your own box,or even spend a little more on another sub box,if you have the space for it,for a single set up,or have someone build you one

2 CUBIC FOOT CUSTOM-PORTED SUB ENCLOSURE for 10" WOOFER | eBay. these boxes are already built/ported /wrapped/and tuned. i say the smaller boxes,for having one sub set up now, and adding one more and the sub,and having the space to do so,and dropping that amp into a 1ohm load on a pair of subs,from a 2ohm load on a single sub??? just recommendations for now,and for the future,retainig your budget with everything

If you want a loud budget sub, Id go with an audioque hdc3 12". You dont have much trunk room, so I say go with a single 12" in a good size enclosure. The best amp I found to keep it close to your budget was an mb quart amp.

You wanna roll with the big boys then you need to learn how to take Kicker, Lanzar, Volfenhausenhager, etc. out of your vocabulary.

i started with roadmaster speakers,and a sparkomatic eq,,i couldnt afford a sub..i had to begin with cheap a.ss 6x9s..got to start somewhere??? right??I still bang lanzar and kicker..never had an issue with them

It comes out to be around $450 shipped and everything. He can even get the 12" sdc2.5 and have some money left over as well.

He didnt include the enclosure in his post, he just asked for equipment for around $400. Sure it came out to be a little more, but for a little more, he'll get a really good spl system.

Thats pretty much a a huge downgrade from what he was looking for? He's looking for spl, and I doubt he'll get that from kicker comps?
