Gain Setting Subs Connected??

I have read many different fourms about setting gains....some say leave the subs hooked up to the amp , and others say dont because it will damage them?? What is the real truth?

Unhook them, but it won't damage them if you left them hooked up. Unless you go over the voltage your trying to get and clip them tremendously. I usually set mine with them hooked up. I don't use a DMM though, I use my ears. Unless I have way too many watts on hand.

ok so it wont hurt them if i set it perfectly with the DMM and not go over while they are connected?

if you leave them connected it won't hurt anything but your ears

It shouldn't. All x-over's off, Volume at custom level, EQ set to flat,Bass boost 0,50hz tone(I suggest -6db).

I thought that you need the subs connected because the amp wont know the final load...which is 2 ohms for me...

As long as you do your math correct your fine. For example: Say I want set my amp(xenon 100.4 100x4@1-4ohms) up to 100@2ohm so 100x2=200 Sq Rt of that is 14.1. Then I would know it takes 14 volts to make 100 watts running at 2 ohms on any amp. Just so you know these measurements are never exact keep that in mind.
