Gain setting question.

When setting gains, why not max out your volume on hu if it is capable of playing cleanly and then set with a dmm. Why do a lot of people say 3/4 of the hu max volume for gain setting. On my kenwood excelon kdc-x693 it will play cleanly at max volume (35 out of 35), so tell me why you can't set the gains with the hu volume max out.

I have the same deck it doesnt not play clean any past 28

27-28 is max i would ever go with that deck

I had a 693 in my last car. Clean sound up until about 26-27 for most songs, and up to about 30 for a couple of them. Any louder than that and it sounded like trash.

If it isn't loud enough for you, you need more power or a different setup. If your box is a crappy prefab, going to a good ported box will make it louder. Try adjusting placement of the box in the car to see if you can get some more output.

Don't turn on bass boost or anything, thst will make it go from clean power to sh*t in nothing flat.
