Gain all the way up bad?

I have the same HU. The preouts are pretty weak. My gains are a lot higher than I'm used to with it as well.

There are too many people on this thread that automatically think that turning the gain up is going to clip the amp or limit the usable volume range of the HU and this is simply not true. If the HU has lower voltage preouts, you may HAVE to turn the gain up fairly high to get full power frm the amp with the HU volume up around 3/4 volume. If the amp is not clipping when you set the gain and you don't turn the HU up any farther than when you set the gain and you don't turn on any boost circuits that weren't on when the gain was set then there is no risk of clipping. The gain control has a wide range to cover the wide range od HU preout voltages out there. If set correctly for the voltage that you are matching, where the setting happens to fall in the available range means nothing. The only real downside to having to use a higher gain setting is the chance of picking up some line hiss, fixed volume statis that you will only hear on really quite parts of the music, really quiet, or during the silence between tracks on a CD.

I have the same deck also, well not for long as my 880 arives tomorrow>//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif I had to max out the gains on my sub amp and then use an old crossover as a line driver to get enough voltage.
