Gain all the way up bad?

having the gain opened up all the way helps you clip your amp and ruin the sub.
what ohm load is this at and what are you pushing?

it's for components, a 4ohm load, crystal mobilesound sscs 6, and the amp is an alpine mrp-f250

i think if you have a crappy head unit i can see why you would need to have your gain all the way up. if that amp is able to do 100 watts and your measuring correctly, i think you should be fine

gain all the way up would not let you hit very high on the head unit's volume so if it goes to 60 it will prolly only go to 30 then on up will be clippin if the gain is maxed out, only time the gain should be maxed is if ya have a really low pre amp voltage say 0.08, my RF amp is maxed out since my head unit has a low pre amp voltage and i never go past volume 15 out of 30, it's fine and hasn't failed me yet.

HU: • Pre Output Voltage (Before Clipping): 2V

Amp: • Input Sensitivity (For Rated Power): 0.2V to 4.0V (1.0 at Center Detent)

100 watts X 2 channels (amp power)

4 ohm load for the speakers, where should I have the gain set to?

Thanks

yeah no problem //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i'd say put the gain right in the middle that should be about right

0dB is crucial.
Also - you had your HU close to full volume? 3/4 or so?

Your filter on the amp was bypassed? Or at least not effecting the 1000hz tone?
I will have to check the 0bd thing. The volume was 70% up and both filters were turned off.

Thanks, I checked out the amp setting tutorial, what is the sqrt(power x resistance) formula for?
