fuse or no fuse???

That's like asking if wearing your seatbelt matters. Most of the time it serves no purpose but in the event of a failure it's there for your safety.

EDIT: Also I'm halfway to 25k posts //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Realistically, unless the cable became disconnected from the battery side and then touched ground.. which I suppose is possible.. a fuse in the alt wire would never blow. The battery would have to be gone first.

me neither,i dont even fuse my amps, but i compete ,so if they blow then they blow and get fixed.thats why i change up every year,to keep a warranty , which i always make sure i have

In the event the wire gets pinched/cut/disconnected/etc (anything that causes it to short) the fuse will protect the battery. Dead shorting a battery with no fuse is a recipe for disaster.

You can get quality fuse holders on ebay for $15, why would you spend hundreds of dollars on equipment then skimp on the safety components? Just doesn't make sense.

meh. we've had this debate before. i say if you do fuse it, you need one at the batt and one at the alt. if not, even if the wire is cut/pinched or otherwise grounded, one side is still hot.

I run fuses between my amps but thats because i need them for meca. I also have my run fused from the alt up front to the battery in the back, in two places, by the alt and by the back battery. dont want a fire. Up front for the big 3 it is not fused but it is secured well.

Yes, but on one side all you have is an alternator, which at worst will just smoke a lot. On the other side you have a battery filled with corrosive acid that can explode if shorted. Not exactly the same thing.

well either way it could start a fire, which is why the fuse is there in the first place. but i see both side of the issue, i just chose to go without one and route it where it won't get damaged.
