Fuse/Circuit breaker questions

I just had my system installed and noticed there is only one fuse block (400a) and it's located under the hood about 6 inches from the battery. That 2/0 is going to the rear to my 2nd battery. There is no other fuses used. I know I need one going to each amp and each battery. But I have read some people use a fuse 6 inches from each battery so I should have 2 on each power wire between batteries correct? Or is that overkill? I think the 400a is overkill as well. Videos I have seen on YouTube suggest 200a.

Also I bought dual inputs for my Taramp 8000d which requires 360a fuse. If I fuse each power wire going into the dual input I would divide that in half correct? So about 180 or 200a per input for a total of 360-400.

its a good idea to fuse anything that provides positive electricity 6 inches from the battery (give or take an inch or so) as it can arc and cause fire concerns. With regards to the more specifics on amperages, ill defer to the experts.

I like this diagram... it explains it pretty clearly...

That diagram is great thanks. Now in regards to the duel input fuses. If I need 360a fuse total for the amp would I have about 200a fuse on each positive input?

Also is it ok to go to big on the fuses? Like the one under the hood being 400a is that ok or should I throw in a 200 instead? Trying to get all of the fuse figured out.

If you have multiple batteries in the back right next to each other like a battery bank you don't need to fuse each one correct? I figured since there is only a few inches of cable between them and nothing should short them out.

I believe you don't NEED any fuses there...(at the amps)... maybe some people prefer to fuse their amps and I think those same people will tell you why... but I haven't had a fuse at or on my amps for 20 years... IDK... maybe it's me... LOL!

I always fuse my amps. Some do, some don't. I'm not about to take that risk if something happens....poof bye bye amp.

So what's the rundown of your system and why did you have a shop install it?

System is

H/U- Pioneer AVH-x7800BT

Comps- Hertz HSK 165

PPI P900.4

Taramps 8000D

2 - 15" FI SP4 v2

8 cubes @30hz

300a H/O Alt ,Duracell AGM Under the hood, and 2 XS Power 3100 in the rear.

I had a show do the install because it's too dang hot and time consuming to do it myself. Plus I would need a lot of breaks to watch YouTube videos. I am one of those people who don't have confidence in my abilities. Even though I am usually able to do whatever I put my mind to I just lack the confidence.

HOT?.. try Phoenix... LOL!.. I think the fuse at the front battery is OK... I run a 500A on front and rear batteries... it is there only in case of any accident... The amp fuses should match the amps current draw I think and if you have your battery bank in the rear all in proximity to each other I think the only fuse you'll need there is the one leading up front to your front battery... That's only my opinion... others may do it differently

Nice equipment you got there.
You should have a distribution block. At least I hope. That should be fused as well.
Thanks! I can't wait to be able to hear it. My stupid PPI amp was installed and didn't even work so I have to send it back. I ordered another one that should be here tomorrow so I can get some sound. My box was delivered today from CherryMan so I am almost able to get it all together. Super excited.

I don't have a distribution block. I have the amps coming right off the batteries in the back to the amps. Distribution block is only for splitting the power from the front to both amps so if I am going directly to the amps from the 2nd and 3rd batteries I am good right? I hope so anyway lol

Yeah 100 with the humidity is too hot for me. I loved heat when I was a kid but the older I get the less heat I can handle. Thanks for the info on the fuse I will leave the 400a where it's at and add another to the rear.

I don't know how active he is but he built mine. He was pretty busy and it took awhile but I wasn't in a hurry since I had to wait for FI to build my subs. Great looking box as always from him.

Great subs, slow build time from what I hear. Can you post pics of this enclosure?

Hopefully you saw the pics before I removed them. Looks like your box. All black (bed liner).
