Front speakers much quieter than rears

To start with, I have to say I'm very much a newbie about this, so I would be grateful if you could bear this in mind.

I'm trying to work out why a set of newly installed Alpine spr-17c speakers (front) should be dramatically quieter than a set of (also newly installed) alpine spr-69c speakers (rear). They are connected to a power acoustik OVN4-1200 amp (also new). We ran brand new speaker wires for all these speakers. I am 99% sure it's not the amp - when I plug a known working speaker into all of the speaker ports they all work. However, when I plug one or both of the front speakers into the rear ports they are still very quiet.

Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.

The sensitivity ratings on the speakers would have a bearing on how loud they are, but the first place I would look would be the gain settings on the amp. If the rear gains are turned up higher, then the rears would play louder. Also, make sure that the fader on the h/u is set to neutral.

Also check crossover frequency on amp and deck. You may also want to flip the + and - for the fronts at the amp to see if they are hooked up right.

you need to check the positive/negative wires on the speakers to make sure they connected right (test with a 9v battery if needed) but it sounds to me like the gain on channel 1 and 2 is set much lower then on channels 3 and 4 so try adjusting your gains
