Front Comp wiring - Ford Explorer

Ok here's the deal :) I'm getting ready to install the Quart Comp set in the doors of my 97 Explorer. The doors are done with eDead, and I have the custom mounting rings installed. (6.5" set) If you've ever seen the wire pass through for one of these trucks, you'll know that it's just just a simple accordian rubber deal that the wiring passes through. It's a 90 degree deal with the accordian thingy attached to the bottom. I have NO IDEA how to pass the wires through to the inside of the car. Short of drilling new holes (which would be a pain due to access being tough) does anyone have any ideas as to how to get the two wires through? It's a comp set so I'll have both the mid and the tweet wire to pass. Here's a pic:

Well I've got a 96 Ranger. The way I got the wire through

the boot was by using a wire coat hanger to fish my wires

through the boot. Just bend the tip of the hanger so the

it won't puncture the boot. I then taped the wires to the

hanger and fished them through. Just bend the hanger

while it's still in the boot. By bending the boot a little.

Be patient, it can take a while.

Here's a pic of my boot and a illustration of how

I bent the end of the hanger.

Ok, I see what your talking about, and in the past, I've done it that ways as well. However, in the Explorers, there is a solid plastic cylinder that rotates as the door is opened and closed. It's hard, and not giving so I can't see being able to fish a coat hanger through it with those bends. I'll give it a shot thogh. Heck, I with the Ex's were as simple as the boot on your Ranger looks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif Of course, nothing is EVER easy for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Thanks!

I hear ya man!

Try calling a local shop and ask how you

can run the wires through into the door.

Or go to an auto parts store and look at one

of those books that breaks down every assembly

aspect of the Explorer and see how to take that

part of the door apart to run your wires through it.

Yeah, I think that is best. Upopn further inspection, the hard plastic thing is actually some sort of electrical component. It is hollow inside, but rather the wires feed into it like a plug, so there is no room inside for anything else to go through.

Thanks!!

I have that same thing on the driver door of my 90 Ford SHO, I had no problems with the passenger door since it had the rubber pass through. Let me know how you decide to go through it. I really don't want to drill cause that'll be a big pain with the very limited access.

I managed to find a small pass through at the bottom of the black thingy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/furious.gif.fc81ca146dbff91fede3ed290dbc4f4c.gif and ever so slightly enlarge it to allow the 16g Stinger wire through. I then slit a hole in the rubber accordian and fed them into it and on into the truck. I will most likely cover the exposed wire with split loom tubing. Got the driver's side done tonight and will do the passenger tomorrrow. It should be easier //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
