probably one of the funniest statements on ca in 2011.

can they get loud yes. will they sound good doing it, very unlikely.

that said, the old school kicker was very good, but as has been said in the thread already the new stuff is china built junk. and the fact that they sell them at bestbuy now isnt helping their reputation any.

and yes, most of us have heard them in properly designed enclosures, i personally have heard much better.

I just got some sa-12s... so my friend knows someone who owns a shop and he said he is gettin some subs for free kicker l7's and he is saying kicker is the best subwoofer brand you can buy and will blow any other brand or subwoofer. He claims because this is my only second system he is right because he has been doing this for years..that kicker is the best subwoofer brand by far... what you guys think?

Well I guess that's your opinion. I know what old school kicker sounded like. I've heard better than Kicker, but they don't sound bad. Kicker will still be here while every other company goes out of business because they must be doing something right. I've heard the old Solo's and the Xpl's. I was around then. I was running Petras Prowlers and some Marathon subs at the time. I also had old school Rockford and Orion.

i wasnt sure you could put all 3 tenses in one sentence.

but regardless of what you have ran or when you were around. that doesnt change the fact that kicker doesnt build to the quality that a lot of the companies that are "underground" do. and one of the biggest reasons kicker (as well as rf and a couple other companies) are still around is because they are riding the success that they had in the past and the name they built when they were quality products, and are now marketing that to kids that walk into bestbuy and tell their parents that they want a "loud" system.

good point, but what i mean more by that is the cheap quality of parts that are used, more than where they are built. the new mainstream subs are quite often more plastic than motor.

I has 40.1. Though I think sundown is also made in korea. TREO Linear Power and MMATS are the only ones I know of made in US

Yep, I can put put 6 tenses in one sentence. I've already stated that they're not the best, so what's your point? The don't have to build that quality level because they are smart. They try to sell a high quantity to rake in the cash. They don't care about people crying about it not being as tough as a custom made sub. Custom stuff sells less. 2 Cvr's will do for most, and Kicker understands this. That's why they are here to stay. I'm a L7 hater, but you tell me how did they win a SQ contest if they sound so bad? I stick with the underground stuff because I care more about car audio than the average person. Kicker's main target is the average person. All I'm saying is that Kicker doesn't sell crap. Sony sells crap.
