O.K. Rangerman. . . let me give this a second attempt. . . if i say anything that offends you in my remarks, please point them out and if i am in the wrong for anything i do apologize. . . .Ohhh, now I can't argue with you b/c you know more about rap music than me...okay, lets think about this. You claim to be an underground fan, right? Everything else sucks, b/c it is "mainstream". Now, I ask you this...how much more mainstream is Eminem than Nelly...I mean ****, you have young white girls running around with Em shirts on like he is one of the Backstreet Boys. He sells more albums (reguardless of the fact that they are crap) than most anybody would dream of...now, how mainstream can you get??? Another point...how do you get that just because someone is not underground, then they ****??? I guarantee that underground stuff you listen to will be mainstream in the next couple of months/years. Where do you believe the St. Lunatics came from???
O.K. First off. . . . When hip hop commercialized it opened the door to many people and probably most of the underground artist that are out now as well as commercial. I respect commercial influence for that, but my arguement is that it has drifted away from the roots of hip hop and mutated into nothing more then Main Stream Pop Culture. . . Does anyone not agree?
I dont think that Eminem sucks based on the fact that he worked the grime and proved himself before he became mainstream. He is a pioneer in his own time and he is really setting new standards as far as "Whites" entering the hip hop game. I dont like most of his commercially played raps. . . ex: My name is, Without Me, The Real Slim Shady etc. . .
I know in the spotlight his career consist of beating on defensless pop stars, and attacking the last good nerve of your "Decent adverage Citizen" Its a tool used and fueled by controversy and a gimmik to get a targeted age of Americans to pull that LP off the Shelf. . . . BUT. . .
If you take a look at his career in the Underground rings, you will see a whole new side to his skills. The man is a lyrical genious and as far as how he connects on just about every verse as far as Content, Wordplay, Metaphors, Imagery etc. . . i just feel that right now, in this space and time, nobody on commercial levels can match his skills. . . . In underground thats a different story. . . there is alot of competition.
Now Nelly on the other hand is the disease of Hip Hop. Lack of origionally structured content, he sounds (lyrically) like every other Hip POP rapper out. Its not true hip hop. . . . You have people out like Mos Def, Common, Company Flow, MF Doom, Supernatural, and the list goes on. . . . that constantly spit nothing but hip hop in its truest form, and you have Nelly and Lil Bow Wow winning nominations and Artist of the year awards for gods sake. . . .
That is my problem with commercial hip hop. . . . the people with true talent get SOOOOO slept on, cause they exploited the game, and glamorized the Fame, Money, Bytches, Cars, Houses, Platinum, and Gold taking away the street element that took them to the point they are at now. . . .
Any disagreements?
