First step for an SQ system?

What is the first step for an SQ system? Adding a sub, upgrading door and rear deck speakers and adding an amp, ect. I am limited on funds and will have to do part now, part later. I have planned on adding a sub, but want to make sure that is what I need to do. I drive a 96 Mustang Cobra coupe with factory Mach 460. Thanks.

Forget about the rear deck speakers.
Properly dampen and seal your doors, add component speakers powered by an external amp (not the HU).

Add a sub/box and amp.

Rewire the Big3 and 2 amp wiring kit.
I agree...

I would focus on my front stage before anything. Deaden and seal the doors then find a nice Component set. If you feel comforable enough to go active then that is always a option.

OK, so no rear deck, that helps out. I am looking at a Fosgate P400-4 amp, run 2 channels bridged to a sub. Would I be able to use the other 2 channels for the components? Thanks.

This is good advice. Did anyone see the sq system in car and audio magazine this month?

You said you are limited on budget...what do you have available fund wise right now?

If you have enough for a head until that is what I would buy first.

Next I would invest in deadening and dampening materials.

Follow that up by a good set of componet speakers

Followed by an amp to run them better than the head unit

last a sub and amp combo.

Sorry, I have an Alpine CDA-9856 head unit. I'm trying to work on a $300 budget. What should I expect to spend to seal and deaden the doors? PG RSD's for the doors, running off 2 channels, possibly a cheap sub off the amp, 8 inch CVR or something. Sound good? I know my budget is low, but I am about to start my second year of college, and they want all the money they can get. Thanks everyone.

maybe peruse the classifieds section on here and pick up some slightly used good equipment for cheaper. Still gonna be tough on your budget though. Might not be considered an SQ system by many but I am sure you can get something pretty decently sounding from your budget if you find the right deals.

Decent 4 channel like you listed

Phoenix Gold RSD's

Then look for a decent used sub like something from Image Dynamics, Dayton HO or maybe a used FI Q or SSA Icon if you can get one for cheap enough

Will need to build a box for the sub, build it yourself and save money

Wiring, do you have any yet? or just the HU, will need a basic amp kit to get things started.

Then if you have any left over you can see about upgrading in other parts, deadening, look at Raamat. Also so good deadening on a budget tips in the deadening sticky HERE.

I'm not expecting to do a total SQ system for $300. I just want to get started. I will buy the amp, I just need to know whether to get the sub now and speakers later or vice versa. Also, do I have to have a component set, or can I just get new speakers and power them from the amp? For my sub, I am limited to about .3-.5 cubes sealed, so it will be a small 8. If I get a sub now, it will be a JL 8w3v3. Thanks again.
