First box in 12 years for 18w6's *pix*

I would try it out. You may be surprised at the results. Then if you want to see how they would perform in a larger enclosure block one whole and see how a single one performs.
Derrick is very good at designing. However, he is young and does not have any experience with these subs. I have ran a single 18 back in the day in 2.8 net and it did very well. However I do think for a smoother response you would need a larger enclosure.

As always personal preference will win out. Go ahead and try it out. I think most here would be a tad surprised at how it performs overall though.
I'm sure i'll be just fine with it. Could it be alot louder with a diff box? Sure, But space is space...Worse case is I run a single. Anything is better then type r's in a sealed prefab.

For sh!ts n giggles

I will tell you this having just had one of these . The 1.75 cubic foot box sounds great. Awesome sq . Doesn't get too low cleanly if you crank it but i'm sure with the two of them in your install that will be less of an issue. After building the box I learned that these do great in larger sealed enclosures and at the time I wasn't willing to give up that extra space so I sold the sub. Wish I had kept the sub though and went for those 4 cubes. Also as a side note credence has these for sale again at 150 bucks a piece. They also have some other kicker and jl stuff going up as well

How much power did u have? And can u explain "doesn't get too low cleanly"?

I remember that thread, I think that's what initialy assured me that they'd be ok. I think you were the first to post a build pic with this current run as well.

Had an oldschool Lanzar Optidrive 500 on it. Don't know how much power I was running exactly. Amp is rated at 1000 watts rms bridged but it is under rated for sure. I just adjusted the gain by ear to the point where it wasn't distorting/clipping. Basically at lower volumes ( what I would consider normal everyday listening volumes) it sounded amazing but when I would try to crank it up it just seemed to lose some composure in the lowest frequencies. It sounded like a sub in too small of an enclosure which I feel it was.

Im going to build my single 18w6 to 2 cubic feet. After talking with several people and looking at the JL cheat sheets and JL spec sheets, I dont see any real advantage of going much bigger sealed. It looks like none of the SQ guys that use this sub are going passed the 1.75 to 2.00 range and didnt see the advantage either. I think this is just one of those situations where the boxes look small, but does what its supposed to do. The only real way to test the difference would be somone build a few different enclosures and literally test them to see how it performs in each.

Guy's around here like the lows so they're biased to the larger box sizes that'll produce said freq's better imo.

my recollection is that when you have a shared airspace enclosure with two drivers - each driver sees about 2/3 of the total volume, not 1/2.

i would reinforce that front baffle - add a brace along the front/middle - about 4-5" deep.

Looks nice and I bet it'll sound great (better than most ppl here think). Would like to see some bracing in there though.

Also I had some wood cut up at Lowes recently and the kid down here did a killer job, I think they use a way nicer saw than my local home depot.

Wonder if that's true about the shared airspace..hmm. I did write that i'll be bracing it in the first post though, i'll prob make them today //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

They do good work if you ask them to be careful. The first guy admitted that the blade was crap/wiggly and that it'd be difficult to get the right cuts. He called a kid over since he was busy that did a great job.

Well a little more progress. Glued the double baffle together yesterday and let it sit overnight. Didn't have enough clamps so I used a old 40" 300lb tv, 2 75lb steel car ramp, 75lb bag o sand and a tool chest. Turned out great lol. Glued that on tonight. Here are just a few pic's of what i'm thinking for bracing.

It's slowly getting there, little bit every night. Prob won't go in for a little while longer.

Ive done testing about this, and it seems that its true. Im not sure what percentage more airspace they "see", but the peak was slightly lower.
