Finished building my first sub!

The dustcap was the last item waiting to be finished and I glued it onto the cone yesterday. Today after I got off work I decided it was ready to be tested free air. Hooked it up to my Audioque 1200D and got it moving pretty decently and so far I have to say I'm really happy!! The glue jobs could have been a bit prettier in some areas, but it was my first time so they will get better.

The sub plays just fine and no hint of coil rub or any other mechanical issue. I will be playing it free air during the week to break it in a bit while I wait for my DATS to get here from parts express so I can pull the T/S parameters off it. Was definitely a fun experience and I learned quite a few things along the way lol.

Next build will be my other AV.2 motor except it will be a 12" this time around and I'm going to color coat the basket. Anyways, here are some pics, hope you guys enjoy! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Very nice, looks purdy
Thanks man //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif The next one will be even better looking with the color coated basket!

Is the cone a sundown?
Yes sir, it's a 15" Zv.3 cone. Sundown sells a bunch of individual parts at a very good price.

I would've given the basket a nice candy color, but it looks great! I'm starting on building subs as well, so my excitement is right here with ya'! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I wish I would have decided to powder coat it when I started but that's ok, the plain gray is actually starting to grow on me. But I'll be adding color to the basket for sure on the next build.

AHHH I want to start doing this. what do i need? just to experiment
A motor, basket, coil, spiders, terminals, cone, dustcap, glue, bolts and a few beers lol. It's a little more complicated than that but there's tons of information out there on how to do this. The next build I do I'll explain all the steps I did in more detail //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Wish u did a step by step build... i have parts to build my pair of 3hp neo motor but im scared to try to build them. These parts are too expensive!

Also tried looking on youtube for step by step vids but they are all just drop-in recone builds. I want to learn how to build the drop-in itself.

I'll be doing another build in about a month and I'll make sure I do that one step by step. I understand how you feel though. I was a bit nervous as well before putting this sub together as I didn't want to waste over $100 worth of parts lol. But just take it slow and be careful and you should be ok. Nice parts btw! I especially like the audiopulse cones //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Where did you buy them from?

As far as youtube videos, have you seen this one? It could be a little more detailed on centering the coil in the gap and making sure the spiders are level on the former but I like it.

It's really not as hard as you would think. Lot's of information out there on it and eventually you just have to go for it and see how it comes out and make adjustments from there. I know there are a few things I will be doing differently on the next build to make it easier and quicker.

Very clean work and beast looking sub sir, I too would like to do this I have all the tools and patience, but I have no clue where to get parts. I have a pair of blown 10" type r's I wanna use for practice. Any idea where I can get a good drop in recone?

This guy has recone kits available that should work. These are not drop ins though, you'll have to glue every piece together yourself.
