fiberglass questions

Ok I am building a fiberglass box for my car and I was curious about using rope that has ben soaked in fiberglass for support. From what I gathered from

http://audioforum.termpro.com/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=32;t=000549

You use nylon 3/8" to ½" rope, soak it, lay it down then glass over it.

my questions are:

1) In the link posted they say to use braided nylon rope. Would this be like climbers rope or like the stuff that has real thick strands and is most of the time yellow?

2)what about fiberglass gasket material ex: http://www.rutland.com/gaskets/gaskets.htm would this be better for the application??

Thanks

Jackson

It doesn't really matter what kind of rope you are using, you could even use wood. The idea here is that fiberglass gains tromendous strength from having ridges, bends, and curves in it. All you are doing is putting ribs in it to strengthen it... I suggest using a pattern like this # in your box walls. soak the rope, lay it in, let it dry, then resin over it again, or glass right over it again, and that should add alot of strength.

1. ) Yep what he said.

2. ) Why go to the extra expense when rope is cheaper. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
