Fiberglass questions/

Ok, im planning on building a complete custom setup in my truck. I got a couple questions about fiberglassing. I always see people talking about the "layers". When they talk about Layers of mat is this the same as the layers of fiberflass itself? or are they putting something else in? If they are talking about fiberglass mating you need layers of this? I was under the impression you put it only where there might be weak points in the box. And one more question. I know when your getting ready to lay down the fiberglass you put tape and plastic so you dont get anything on your car. But my question is, do you only use like a layer or two of scotch tape? and then fiberglass over that?

When layers is said, it is meant as resined fiberglass matte layers. And to cover the area, do two layers of masking tape, alternating directions, and then cover with tin foil and give it a healthy dose of WD40 or Pam as a mold release agent.
