few questions about gain settings.

hey all.

so when you set your gain, they say you gotta turn up 3/4 the volume.. but i did that and didnt get my satisfaction of basss.. so instead i did a bit over 1/2 volume testing... since i wont blast it that load and i have my satisfaction.. is this an okay thing to do or do i have to follow orders and do 3/4th?

second question is the HU is down to 0, your done setting voltage and its accurate, now you set the head unit from 0 to your like, now wouldnt the voltage on the amp go up a bit if say you were to turn the bass up by 3 notches?

I have no idea what you're talking about in the first part.

For the second, the answer is yes. Depending on the scale of the boost on the HU, it might try to go up a lot. If the gain is set correctly with it at 0 and it tries to go up a lot, you'll clip the amp and you've defeated the whole point of setting the amp correctly to begin with.

so why dont we just set the boost at however much you want it then set the gain? that way their wouldnt be any clipping?? dont get why you gotta set at 0..

set the gains based on whatever max volume you listen too(less than or = to 3/4 is a general number), and then re-adjust down to whatever balance level you want

hmm that didnt really answear my question but i think i know what to do now...

i should set the dmm meter in, set the gains and then set the HU with the DMM in still and see what pops up and im good to go without havint to readjust this for like the 20th time
