looks promising

well this is the point of the day where my camera decided to take a ****. it's a kodak easyshare c330. won it from a work party and it lasted me a good 4 years. not bad for a free camera. now i have to take all my pics with my phone until i can get a hold of a good camera.

so lets carry on.

after i sanded off the ports i had to set it aside until i went and picked up some expanding foam and some body filler. so i started working on getting the trim area of the amp panel stiffer so it would have a pretty good trim line to hook up into the weather stripping

anyways i started to remove each clip and sand down the exess fiberglass that wasn't attached to the trim but to the clips

0510091726-00.jpg

then i glassed all of the trim to stiffen it

0510091834-00.jpg

0510091834-01.jpg

let the car bake in the sun again and began back with the rear dash panel. i started with taping the flares for like the 4th time.

and that's where is sits.

tomorrow i will begin and add another layer to the trim section of the amp panel. let that sit and then remove the flare and start laying the body filler onto the dash panel and sand away.

i'm pretty sure the sanding will take a lot of my day so if i get any additional time to get work done it' will be to trim off the rest of the excess glass on the amp panel. maybe even remove it from the trunk we shall see.

well much progress has been done today.

i started out with my mission of pulling the amp beauty panel. first i trimmed off some of the excess fleece and excess fiberglass. then i cut out the holes for the trunk door support bars. initially i though they were going to be small. little did i know that wasn't going to happen. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

they turned out a little longer than what i had hoped and now i feel it kind of sticks out like a sore thumb. i'll have to figure something out when fleecing. maybe have a flap like thing underneath it and cover it with suede. i dono.. i'll figure that out some how.

after that i managed to finally close the trunk. i haven't been able to close it for the past 4 days lols.

after that i decided to add the weather stripping for a test. success at that. and the stripping really pins the panel in place. though i smashed my thumb with a rubber mallet while doing it. after i felt happy with the results i pulled the panel out and began to prep sand both panels for body filler.did some fine tweaking and onto the filler. i really hate using bondo filler. i would have used rage gold but i wasn't thinking and didn't order it ahead of time(not found locally). i started out with sanding the rear dash panel i did the majority of it today. now i'm not looking for paint worthy sanding. i just need to get all my curves settled and flats flattened and smooth enough to be covered with the suede. that's pretty much where it ended today. a lot of sanding and still much more to come. i'm going to hate doing that amp panel.

onto the pics!

well tomorrow i'll start with finishing the rear dash panel. then i'll start sanding the amp beauty panel when that's done if i have the time tomorroe i'll them pull the amp rack out of the car, insert the rear dash panel. line up the ports. and glue the enclosure side of the port to the enclosure. after the ports are glued in place i can then glue the baffles on. after the baffles are on, then i could star glassing the subs beauty panel.

lol. soooo much more work yet soooooooooooooooooooo close!

Very nice work bro!
thanks!

Looks sick man --Great work!

Did you get all itchy and **** from glassing?
not from the glassing, but from the sanding. when you sand fiberglassed areas that when you really want to be covered. though i wasn't and it doesn't really bother me much. i have my remedies. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/redface.gif.62fdbfe1a101588a808c4cff71bcb942.gif

looks good man keep it up u almost donnee!!!
yeah. soon, though still a ton of work left.

question, when you use that body filler, you dont use the red stuff..maybe thats where i messed up with my fiberglassin adventure..work looks great tho!

i did use the red stuff.

it's the hardner(activator) for the resin. w/o it, the resin will just stay goopy and sticky.

you really only need to use a little of the hardner and enough to turn the filler into a peach like color.

use small amounts of body filler(about the size of a golf ball) and a small dab of hardner. mix well to a nice peachy color then spread. in 30 min you can sand it.

sike..

im no noob..just never fiberglassed/bondo'd before in my life..

but im more of the do it all at once..so a little bondo then hardner, spread, then repeat?

i like to work in small amounts. you can go all out if you want but if you are half way into spreading your body filler then have it harden up then you could end up with a big waste of filler and a half ass job.(patience is key to everything!)

you'd be amazed at how much golf ball sizes of filler can spread out and cover.

as for mixing. i just used the rubber spreading things i have. they sell them at home depot or autoparts store for like 3 bucks.
