Fairlady Trunk Build Log

Coming along very nicely. Can't wait to see the finished pics. Need to find an application and some subs to start doing some fiberglass work of my own.
Anything else going in the car? amps? comps? where is the sub amp going to mount? Just getting anxious to see the finished pics lol.
thank you. yea i enjoy doing this...but it takes so much time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/verymad.gif.3f39c5c2fd57527b671fad3efdfac756.gif

as far as components i dont know what he has planned. there will definatly be an upgrade..and the amp location/build should follow this build up at some point. it should be nice //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/naughty.gif.94359f346c0f1259df8038d60b41863e.gif

heres where i am at as of now. it now has two layers of matte on it. along with two layers of filler glass/kitty hair/whatever else it is called, and one layer of bondo body filler. its all sanded and will need another latyer of bondo tommarow.

for those who dont know, it will be painted around the sub and the rest will be covered by a false floor

well i got ntohing done....lawl jk. it now has two layers of fg matte, 2-3 layers of kitty hair, and 3 layers of filler. so its pretty smooth. the final layer was sanded with 60 then 80 followed by 100 and 120. i then primered it so i can see all the little imperections. those will be fixed tommarow. here are some pics

there are some imperfections that cant really be fixed without a whole lot of work...however at the given angle the box will be at in the car you cant see it without basically puting your head horizontal with the side of the box...so im not worried about it. also it will be painted black so that will also covered

Don't give up on the filler... how will you be finishing it (covering it?)
Invest in some RAGE Gold, it's worth it... and smoot out the entire thing...

yea it will be painted so i know it will need more filler. i have looked around for the rage gold but cant really find it...

the reason its not all being smoothed out is simply because that would be a lot of wasted effort...only 6-7 inches on the left and right will be seen. along withj 1.5-2" infront and behind the sub. the rest will be covered by a false floor

The new stuff from bondo with the blue MEKP works just as well , and sands just as easy . If I may offer a suggestion . Break out the cheese grater / body file when the filler strarts to turn rubbery. And knock down those ridges , it will save you asn arse load of time and paper //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

If it's going to be painted... keep going... and going...

Keep sanding, just block sanding as well, looks a little bit wavy to be and black will show everything, esp. with rattle cans, you can get rage from Terry's auto supply, they ship as well, rage is really good stuff (sands like chalk), you have to remember body filler is just essentially for pinholes, not to fill waves, it shouldn't exceed 1/4''. So if I were you, I would whip out the 60 grit get it all even, and keep redoing the process, also, word of advice, primer only after 220.

Also remember the guide coat, this will show you your hi and low spots

Good Luck, //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
