Facing sub into car.

I drive a 08 ford focus sedan and have a 15 inch fi Q in a ported box. The box was a real hassel to get in and i cant turn it around without taking it back out. Its currently facing towards the trunk lid and its pretty **** loud. But im really thinking about turning it around and facing it into the cabin. Before this i had 2 12 inch AQ SDC's and they were way louder facing into the cab rather than facing the trunk. However the port was on the back left of the box versus the port behing on the same side as the sub like my current box is.

I know that nobody can answer this question because its something that you simply have to experiment with, but im just wondering what you guys think would be louder based on that info? I dont even know if its possible to get that box back out and if i do and its not as loud facing inside, IMA BE PISSED OFF HOMIE!

There is a good chance it will be louder facing inside the car, but you might loose a little low end. Just make sure you seal it off from the trunk so you wont get cancellation of sound waves. It will also be about 1-3db louder when you seal it off. What is your box tuned to?

around 35 hz. What exactly is sealing it off from the trunk? I have looked it up on google and what not and cant find much info?

sealing from trunk just means sub is facing inside the car preferably with the seats out or folded down and sealed using wood, foam and/or sound deadener so that the sub is completely separate from the trunk's airspace

This is a good answer. ^^^

Search youtube for "thor's hammer dc audio" and check out Rob's trunk. That is how to properly get loud out of a trunk.

Probably wont seal it from the trunk. Im not really into making vehicles interior look like crap in exchange for spl. I fold the seats down and thats about it.

and im willing to sacrifice a bit of low end in exchange for more output so im definatly going to try! but also, my aq's were louder AND hit the lows better facing in the cab rather than out. But also, that box was SOO big it practically sealed its self of from the trunk come to think of it.

I have owned both subs and in my experience the AQ's were louder than my Q but not by much. I still prefer the Q any day of the week. Depending on your fabrication skills you can always make a wooden beauty piece to cover and seal your work though

Yea, i would have to say my fi Q 15 is like.. the exact same volume as my 2 aq 12's were. It just sounds (and looks) a bit better. Plus i gained some trunk space! anxious to go out there and turn that beast around tomoro.

Good choice on the sub...a single 15 sounds great IMO. I went from a single FI Q 15 to two Q 15's and I really did prefer the sound of when I only had one. Good luck though let us know how it sounds

Finally got it out... After removing a lot of the trunk components. panel, and weather stripping and having someone help me pull it out really hard. While this ***** is out, im gona use the rest of my sound dampening to cover as much of the trunk as possible, covered the trunk lid and opening last night i just need to do the rear deck and side trunk walls. I may need to rewire the sub tho because the speaker wire coming out the back of the sub box may not be long enough to reach the amp mounted on the back of my rear seats with the sub facing in the cab. Taking a break right now its too **** hot in florida lol

All done! its about the same volume facing into the car from what i can tell. Sounds better tho because it causes less rattle this way.
