Extremely frustrated, need help please.

@ jman, the output RCAs have a custom made input jack coming out of them, those 2 wires go to the terminals on the PCB of the input RCA. I thought the jack may have been broken so I ghetto modded a new jack using those holes to run the wires out of. It changed nothing.

Maybe check the outputs of the head unit. Try at a bunch of diff. volumes maybe it kicks on and off or something of that matter. Breaking the rca could caused some problems for the deck.

But the system wasn't even on when the RCA wire broke...

As I started the car today I heard the sub working for the first 30 seconds or so!!! I changed to a bass track to hear it and it was gone again...

What could be causing it to work and then stop working?

Maybe check the gain. Could of got bumped to max or so and is causing it to shut down after a short period. A friend of mine had me come over to figure out his system and his words were "its turning on then shutting down in less than a minute". Got to looking and seen the gain was maxed out. I turned it down and that stopped it from happening. I really cant tell from the pic where your gain is set to maybe its cranked and is causing the sound to cut out of after that 30 seconds or so.

I wish it were that easy :'( The gain is in the same spot it was when I adjusted it with a DMM when I first did the install. It's around 1 oclock.

I really don't get it, could it be some sort of power problem? Maybe something with the HU, is there a way to reset the HU?

Take the sub out of the box and check the tinsel leads on the underside of the cone. I frayed mine once to the point where it would work occasionally but not all the time.
I would check that too I've had that happen before.

Also do you have a home stereo if so take ur sub and box bring it in and test it there. If working properly off the home stereo you can now work down through the rest of ur equipment. After that I would take the amp inside with some short pieces of some power wire around hook to a battery charger and run a new set of rcas from the amp to lets say the dvd player or a stereo that has outputs on it. This will tell if the amp is having the problem. Then you can move next to the wiring and so forth. I know it seems like alot, but its been how long and still no luck. You gotta start breaking down possibilties... If it were me I would do this process could lead you right to the problem in no time.

Something interesting happened today. I was driving home from work and the sub started working all of a sudden... I was really please, turned it up ans it seemed good.

Then all of a sudden it stopped, I decided to play a 50hertz tone to see, all of a sudden it started working again, really loud! I switched to a song and it worked for 10 seconds then died again...Went back to the tone and it started working, back to song, dies again... Then it died for good and I couldn't get any more out of it...WTH!?

What on earth could be going on?

What part of the system could be causing this? Would it be the HU not sending the signal to the amp? Is it the amp not powering the sub? Or would it be the sub working and not working sometimes? Let me guess, it could be any of them lol
