well as i said, if the wire are the same gauge (same thickness on the actual wire) i highly doubt you'll notice any difference in sound. and i've used walmart wire before and have had no problems whatsoever. its basicly a matter of $$$ and personal preference

is schoche 4 gauge wire from walmart = in strand count to normal 4 guage wire? i don't have wire to compare

the wire size is about the same as a 8 guage Rockford wire... no from the outside of the insulation the schoche wire is the same as rockfords... heh.. getting exactly what you pay for I think..

I'm sure this thread is longer than I've looked (just at page 1) but I'm going to venture out there and say that pertaining just to the topic text that power wire is something I know very little about as far as strand count, etc. Some of the SPL guys can chime in on that. However, for speaker wire, it does make a huge difference if you use the right wire. Comparing Walmart wire to the dollar store wire, probably not. Comparing Walmart wire to Tara Labs, yes.
