everstart battery in the back?

What would be better to put in the back an everstart max or a everstart marine battery? Whats the pros and cons of each?

Either one do better than the other with little vent?

This is going to be pretty much for a Daily Driver, but I will be going to some local comps.

it will put breaks on how far it drops. people seem to think that alts dont naturally drop in voltage or dont have gaps in performance. truth be told if you have a 2500 watt system on a 200 amp alt and it never drops past 14v you dont have anywhere near 2500 watts reguardless what the sticker says. 200 amp alt puts out its 200 amps at 12.5. after 12.5v all extra is comming from the battery but what often gets over looked is what can happen between from 13.5v to 12.5 v. (depends on float voltage and if your battery floats at 12.5 it sucks). reguards also have to be taken into account that its a dumb idea to try and run a daily driver system that is 2500 watts and up with a 70-100amp alt and constantly have the volume up. as long as the peak dips dont go below 11.5 in 90% of most cases it is harmless. if you are worried about dimming a battery can help but NOT like A LOT think. a better battery is a SMALLER load on the electrical and is MORE consistant thus the voltage regualator (a culprit to lights dimming even if you have a high output alt) works smoother. also a myth your amps arent going to get 2 times as loud with a higher voltage we are talking maybe a full db between REAL 12v and REAL 18v.

When the engine is running, the alternator is the power source for the system--the only time ANY power will be coming from the battery is if the alternator can't keep up with demand and the system voltage drops. Otherwise the current flow is in the other direction: current flows from the alternator to the battery.

Even a fully charged battery draws a certain amount of current from the alternator, and a recharging battery draws much more. Every amp that the battery takes from your alternator is one less that's available for your system. Adding a second battery might take some of the strain off the first battery, but it's putting a bigger load on the alternator, which means the voltage will drop to battery level more frequently than without the second battery. Take this too far and you'll find that the alternator can't keep either battery fully charged.

lol if a battery is charged even after it starts up the car it isnt going to draw 20 amps all the time. i see a lot of people say that alot. if you have a better battery (not some crappy stock battery) it from the word go is a lower load on the alt (talking the actual charge process as this figures into the load seen by the alt). if a battery has 1/3 to 1/4 of the load of what was in there to start with.....

Alright alot of that was confusing to me. My alternator is 120 amp I believe. Ive done the big 3 with 0 guage. My battery under the hood is an everstart. So would adding a everstart maxx to the back keep my voltage up higher or would it actually lower it?

Yeah the everstarts arent gel so they need to vent but Im not a good example to learn from but I look at this way. My trunk is sealed off from the cabin from my amp and battery racks and then the wall is gonna seal it off even more so Im not worried but unless youve got some major things blocking it I wouldnt
so someone is smoking or lighting a cigarette, one of your batts has a leak, you open the trunk and blow the *** end of your car up good job. Not to mention a leaky battery in a sealed compartment and the sun beating down on it.

Then a second battery would do more harm than good.

NEVER HEARD THAT BEFORE EVER! So what you guys are saying is, even if you have a nice big second battery thats charged to 13.6 volts or more, such as a 2400, you would be better off just having a decent battery up front and a high-output alt and saying screw the second battery in the rear thats so much closer to the amp?

For daily driver systems that are going to be used almost entirely with the engine running, yes, that's exactly what I'm saying.

I may be the only one saying it, though.

by the time its being used like that the battery will be being used by the system. again if hi amp alt is being taxxed its dropping in voltage. the way a system needs power is ALWAYS changing to music (only constant via a test tone). if the alt is being taxxed that much to start with the performance of the audio system will be worse without an extra battery unless we are talking about people who have too small of an electrical system and ALWAYS listen to that system in such a way that it kills batteries.

So basically what your saying is, you do need an extra battery in the back to keep your amp happy! I know ALOT of people that DO NOT have HO alts and do just fine running 1 or even 2 batteries extra in the rear, not only have i ever heard of them having a problem, they actually do very well streetbeating, and on the meter. So to answer your question, i would definately put a second battery in the back, no way i wouldnt with the amp your going to be running!!!
