Electrical screwed

Long story short...took out headunit to reconnect front speaker wires. Didn't disconnect the battery and I guess a few wires touched and there was a "pop" and a little smoke. The head unit wont turn on anymore. I took it to an audio shop and they tested if the head unit itself still worked and they said it did. They told me to check my wires and fuses... I checked the fuse on the back of the headunit and its fine (replace it to be safe), checked the fuse labeled "radio amp" under the hood in the fuse box and it is fine as well. I re-wired all the wires on the harness...soldered and electrical taped them. STILL NOTHING....

Im stumped...help would help lots or else its going to the shop if I can't figure it out.

How's your ground. And also an update to a previously made thread is better than starting a new one. I don't understand why you just didn't have the shop rewire your car. It is obvious you are having a lot of issue. One with the box and now this. I would honestly say you need someone physically there to help you or get a shop to do it.

I am going to take it to the shop tomorrow unless I can get some info. from here on how to fix it. Im not sure where the ground would be at..i'd have to trace it down to the factory one right?

test light??

I know what the ground wire is, but i dunno where it would be since its factory ran.

Im going to try to hook the stock radio up for a sec. just to see if it will work

Your HU only needs 3 wires to power on. Ground, +12v constant, and +12v switched. The constant wire should be yellow on your HU harness and have current all the time. The switched should be red and have juice when the key is on, and the ground is black.

yeah and the harness I bought at bestbuy had an extra yellow power wire and an extra ground wire. Ive tried connecting them to each one and neither have worked.

Fuse than somewhere, look inside car for a fuse panel.

Also to make sure deck is working, connect it to the battery directly. Hook power to postive, ground to negative and ign to postive. If it powers on, u no it's working correctly and u have either replace a fuse or run new wires to radio( bc somethin is wrong with the current wiring.)

Best post so far. Got a 1 in 3 chance of finding your problem.

All the wires are connected 100%...I'd check the ground but I dont know where it goes since its factory installed

What do you mean "hook it up"? How am I supposed to hook little wireharness wires to the battery? And Im not sure where to go for the igniton

Just extend the 3 wires w/ speaker wire.

Hook the power wire to postive side of batt.

Hook the ground to the negative side of batt.

Hook the ign. Wire to the postive side of batt.

This will rule out the hu if it powers up forsure.

If it does work that makes me beleive that there are 2 things that are causing the problem.

1. A bad fuse, check all fuses, under hood and inside car.

2. Faulty wiring, either u wired something wrong or the factory wire is bad.

Alright, did that and it turned on.

What other fuses are there in the car other than the fuse box under the hood and the fuse on the head unit?

What wiring could I have done wrong? All I did was connect wireing harnesses...
