EC Series 1 Build

Why not? It's just a bigger box with more holes to cut out. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif
Think big! You do pro audio, you should be used to this by now?

Hole cutting/flush mounting is defintely my least favorite part of cabinet building.

Only reason I'll probably do a single driver full-range next. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Personally I would not run a 2nd order 2.5khz with the RS-180. But as long as it sounds good. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
I run these mids in my car. And I was concerned with the crossover point being that high when I first modeled it up. But, after playing with them in my car they do fine up that high. I didn't want to run that tweeter much lower because it starts to sound like crap much below 2.5k.

Much much higher on the mids and you are right they would start getting beamy and have a lot of cone break up, but they do just fine in this application. I went with 2nd order to keep everything rather simple and could have added a midrange, but that would have made it a 3 way and I really didn't want to do that...

You like Devil speakers?

unholy ?

I've never used the RS-180 but I've used the RS-150S more than a few times and I felt like 3rd order 2200 hz was pushing it as far as the low pass was concerned. Just my opinion though. Other designers have used 4th orders at 2.5khz with notch filters to tame the modes.

But again, it is how it sounds not how it graphs that really matters.

BTW what tweeter do you run in your car with the Dayton?

By devil speakers... do you mean one-ways?

Nah, I'd love to build a line array but I'd hate to cut all the holes. Maybe if I had a hole saw. But to route everything down for a flush mount... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/mad.gif.c18f003ab0ef8a0d9c27ca78d77a6392.gif

It will happen one day when I have more money. But I'd probably still puss out and go planar. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Cutting holes with a 2 HP plunge router works great. Hole saws are lame,

I tried this with my line array using a 4" saw and forget it. Router with good

bit makes it so easy. Flush mount is cake. Get a another rabbetting bit

and run it across the hole you cut.

If you use planar magnetic tweeters like Dayton PT2, all you do is cut out

a large rectangle for all the drivers [chamber off the PT2's].

Which planar are you looking at?

I'm thinking my next purchase is going to be a jasper jig...

Especially before I finish any more speakers... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

They have them at parts express... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I don't know if they will fit my Router... So I might have to do some afro engineering...

I'm going to have to rig mine somehow because mine isn't a plunge... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif **** it...

They are way overrated. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif They slip easily on my router and break too easily if tightened because of the way it mounts. I usually just use some 1/4" MDF now.
