EC Series 1 Build

Now on to the EC-S2 and the EC-S3... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/woot.gif.aaa6090e619a97b6090d16dd863c5a69.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I'm thinking a larger box dual mid/woofer 2.5 way design and a 3 way floorstander. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

$460-$480 is the cost on the pair so far IIRC...
So if I put 10 hours in building them (conservative estimate at best) $15 * 10 = $150

$480+150= $630

A pair of B&W 685 is $650... So, yea...
On bigger designs, the skew is much higher and favors DIY.

An extreme example. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

This speaker is technically commercial, but Rick is a DIY'er, and offering

good stuff for the money.

$10,995 / pair

If this was a product from a well established big name in audio,

they'd charge you $50k - $75k no problem. The might even throw in

a sub. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

DIY driver cost? ~$4k - $5k .. DIY wins big here if you can execute the build.

I could defiantly see how that could be.

I would have saved more money if I purchased my own MDF and built my own enclosures, but I couldn't come close to making anything as nice as the parts express boxes. Plus, they really aren't that expensive once you get them and start looking at how solid they are...

Go for 3 way loudspeaker, active electronics //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

After you build this, go for the big line array //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

It's only time and money //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I have considered the selah audio route with the parts only approach. Has anyone else tried it.
Rick is in cyber all the time. If I didn't DIY, he's one of just a few people

that I would be using to build my system. BTW, I beleive he farms out

the cabinet work to a local woodworking guy //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif
