The British Ear
I decided a while back I was going to build my own Loudspeaker. So, I did.

The drivers used in the design are Dayton RS180-8 and Dayton DC-28F-8.

My basic design goal was something that sounded decent, wouldn't be too expensive and would take up a very small footprint.

I'll post more about it later...

It obviously needs to be cleaned up a bit before it is totally finished.

Also, I am getting some Black Machine Screws to hold in the drivers.

Here is the crossover design. Just a simple 2-Way 2nd Order LR.

looking good..whats the response on these babies?
I haven't swept them yet. I'll get around to that eventually. But, they actually sound really good. I was surprised.

If you look at the one picture with the crossover information, you can see the 'expected' response based on measurements I have taken and that others had taken...

My roommate last year had two of those Daytons in an MTM with a Seas textile dome, bi-amped...I was impressed with the low end extension //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

DIY speakers is pretty sweet. You can keep climbing the performance latter too.

If you get bit, it's hard to go back to the store.

Oh indeed... I am rather impressed with the low end response...

LAWL...

DIY is fun, but this has seriously taken me months to do. Just a bit at a time.

I still stand by what I have always said that they are cheaper in parts but if you add in my time they are more than a really good store purchased speaker...

Wow looks great, what was the total cost? Would ya build me some to play with, of course I'll pay.

Honestly, I don't know for sure. I need to sit down and figure out what they are total.

$460-$480 is the cost on the pair so far IIRC...

So if I put 10 hours in building them (conservative estimate at best) $15 * 10 = $150

$480+150= $630

A pair of B&W 685 is $650... So, yea...

That's about what I was going to estimate. With everything included that you bought.
nG
I left some stuff out...

That is:

Drivers

Crossover Parts (The way I would do them now vs Before)

Stuffing

Fasteners

Binding Posts & Plate

Build time (Conservative)

What it doesn't include:

Glue/Super 77

Random Screws

Cable

Spade Plugs

If I was to include the cost of my crossover software (purchased for this design and nG's crossovers) and my box software (which I have had for a while but never used for anything other than a subwoofer box) and my WT3; Plus, tool usage and other expenses (such as driving, tax, shipping, design time) it would be more a lot...

Not that this wasn't fun, but looking at it now I think next time I get the itch to build speakers I'll go get a pair of the 685s or some CT7... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I like the building, and knowing that I built something that sounds good... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Indeed... And they do sound rather good. I was A/B/C with the B&W DM601S3, B&W HTM-7, and the G7S Audio EC-S1.

DM601S3~EC-S1>~HTM-7...

I hate that HTM-7...

But, they sound WAY better than I expected them to. It is seriously surprising.

Same thing with your speakers Noah. They sound way better than I expected them to...
