Dsp and headunits

Does the quality of a headunit matter as much if using a dsp or crossover?

Here're a few things to consider:

1. Yes, it matters.

2. Your system is as good as its weakest link.

3. If using a DSP, you certainly don't need an HU that has a lot of processing features.

4. If you have crap going into the DSP, you'll have coming out of it.

5. A solid Pioneer or Clarion or Alpine will do you just fine.

6. If you're looking for absolute top notch receivers, 99prs would be it (you no longer need a DSP). Pioneer also offers a digital output unit.

As long as it has a 24 bit DAC built in and all the toys you want, you are fine.

i at 1 time wander the same thing, but what fly said is right.dont need the best h/u if your getting a dsp.

but dont want a junk h/u ether.

i say buy a 80prs , i love this h/u ...
Work on the soundstage aspect yet?

Though it's important to make a distinction between sound quality of a deck and its processing power/features. A lot of people love old school decks like Nakamichi and even not so old McIntosh units. I don't think those units were feature rich at all, but just sounded great.

For what its worth, you will hear a difference between a cheap sony and a solid pioneer, though price difference isn't much.

The reason i ask is because of the headunit im looking at its a pumpkin 7inch touch screen
