hello im buidling two fiberglass pods for my type -r's and made my rings and im about to place them into place but i was wondering what size dowels i should use and how should i connect them to the fiberglass and ring i herd superglue but how could that be possobly strong enough? and what will be carrying the weight of the sub in the end product will the fleece hold to the ring that strong to support the sub? thanks alot everyone

I would think 1/4" dowels would be enough. All the dowels do is hold the baffles in place while you are glassing. The fiberglass (I hope you planned on using more than just fleece. The fleece is just to get the initial shape, then you 'glass over it) is what will ultimately support the weight of the subs once they are installed. Also, most people that I know of use hot glue to hold the dowels in place.

I agree with squeak.

Hot glue will dry the quickest ... you'll still get grumpy holding them in place for the few seconds it takes to dry //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

nice thanks alot yeah i was planin on 5-7 layers er so after the fleecin but hey i got one more question why dont people take their dowels out?
try it, lol, it's kinds hard to do, plus leaving them in gives you even more strength. I am slightly anal about it and fiberglassed the dowels into the box.

Yeah......kinda of one more unnecessary step to take. The only reason not to leave them in is if you didn't secure them very well and they run the risk of becoming detached and jamming into the back of your cone while it is playing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif If you secure them good and tight with glue, then you should be A-OK. Also, some people actually screw in the dowels after they are glued in place (if you plan on leaving them in there permanently)

Bracing ... will you be bracing ?

I would ... depending on the size of the box.

Squeak reminded me when he mentioned screwing //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

After you resin the fleece and get the first layer of mat or cloth on, put your braces inside and put a screw or two in through the outside of the box ... then 'glass over them ... adding a screw or two more through the next couple layers. Nice and hidden, and then you're also not drilling though 3/8" of fiberglass in the end.

I actually used some dowels for bracing in mine, the flat part above the subs rattled like a mother, so I screwed some dowels and MDF in to add support. I wouldnt trust glue to hold the dowels in place.
