well i will be going to post secondary this fall so im looking to build some good speakers for my dorm. the ones i have now are huge and well they arent that good. i am in need of some suggestions on what kind of speakers i should be looking into. i was thinking a full range would be cheapest and would have good bass. also, i am wondering what the differences are between bass reflex, transmission line, etc speakers are. they will be used for music mostly, but movies aswell and they will be powered by my harmon kardon avr-130

my buget is 150ish...i dont really wanna spend a whole lot, just want a good set of speakers. the size, well either a bookshelf will do or a tall and thin cabinet like pvaudio's build for the daytons would be good too.

thanks for the suggestion nG, i will definatly check them out. the price is defiantly decent, could you tell me more about them? are they a good all around speaker, good for music movies and all that?

I like the AA Arbiter TM's... cheap... simple... good.

Yea.... That is how they sound too... Cheap and simple....

I would think he would be much better off going with a silk dome tweeter of some quality and then getting something like that Dayton RS 7".

But, maybe it's just my spoiled ears that makes me not like those XT25 tweeters and the beautiful tinsel slap sloppiness of the AA mids....

hmm, so maybe the speakers that pv built will suit me well. he did the dual mid, isthat nessesary, for my situation atleast? i imagine the dual 7"s deliver a fair amount of bass, which is good:)

If you go with the correct ported box and don't expect 20Hz out of it then it will be fine. Couple it with a decent sub and you can have a very nice sounding little system. I have to look back at what drivers he used, but if I recall correctly they are decent ones.

I just HATE that XT25 tweeter and think for the price of the mid the Dayton RS series is much more natural and smooth. It's so harsh and I don't enjoy any part of it. There are lots better ones out there.
