door speaker build log (pics)

You DO NOT want that shit...it's asphalt based and will melt at temps above 100 (easily reached in a car) and generally make a huge mess where ever you put it.

Well you got a nice set

>>Fiberglass Forums.com

I guess this is what I would try or somthing like this..

Make an MDF plate the shape that you need

Mount the Speakers to it

Im thinking from the flat edge of the Lower pocket to the coner

make the side that is by the pocket that high

fleese & glass I'd overlap the pannel a bit to cover the spot you cut unless you can clean it up.. hope it makes sence

Wowz...troy audio in my thread...let me just say I am very impressed by your work especially that 300c your doing.

thanks man, you get the idea of what im was saying?

cut a base plate the shape of the pannel coner raise the side by the pocket so it will match up a bit.. mount the rings for the mid & tweeter on the base..

you can use Plumbers tape for mounting(This Back Strap stuff) to image them

Im sure you can do it.. just read up a lil on the finberglassforums.com & post lots of pix & ask Q's you can do it im sure of it..

Peace Troy

I understand what your saying Troy...but I've already mounted the mid to the door with an mdf ring...I would kind of be going backwards if I took it all apart and made new mdf baffels...also the tweeter is going to be up high in the door...not down low where you see it now...was going to start on this today but it's incredibly muggy outside and i'm just going to sit in front of a fan and drink tequilla till I fall asleep instead.

Well I went shopping yesterday...

S5030503.jpg

bought a bunch of stuff to build my grills....

started off with some cardboard, tape and my old stock grills to build a frame to glass over. they needed some reinforcement with wodden dowels and hot glue.

S5030529.jpg

I had cut the bottom of this grill out to try and make it fit stock so it needed reinforcement with more hot glue and dowels.

S5030531.jpg

These were a dollar a piece at walmart...I cut them up to fit with an exacto knife.
S5030518.jpg

I kind of botched the tweeter mounting on the driver side..you can't really tell in the pic without the tweeter installed but it's slightly below the dash with the door shut, so I have to go to the junk yard and get another one. oh well live and learn.

These are the grills after tinfoil and fiberglass...waiting for them to dry right now...I don't care about the indent in the middle of the grille as I will be cutting it out to let the sound through anways.

Hopefully all goes well and I can cut them out and wrap them in fabric and mount them to the door tomorrow...

I think you need to slow down. You keep ****in shit up haha
yeah I was building grills, fixing my tweeters and mounting them all at them same time...lol....yeah it's no biggie though just have to find the right junkyard.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

Got the grills cut out of the mold. Was a total pain in the *** because I'm at work and the best thing I could find to cut with was a hack saw and a hole saw...and I was a cheap *** and didn't buy a respirator so I was trying to hold my breath and that just didn't work out too well lol...but I do have a bench grinder here which helped a ton with fitting them tight to the door...I think if I had to do this again I would make a mold of the old grill with tin foil and then fiberglass that because the grills I made were slightly larger that the old ones since I layed the mat on top of the old one. Hope that makes sense because it's a tough concept to explain without seeing it first hand...anyway here are a few more pics...I still need to jig saw the rough edges on the inside but I have to wait till I get home...then wrap in fabric...then glue the pegs on to hold the grill to the door...uggg it never ends.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif Oh yeah btw, I bought all my glassing supplies at walmart....I think it's fine for something like this but I can see how better materials would make a difference if you were worried about strength issues like when building a box.
