LOL
Installing some jl vr 6 1/2 comps in my doors...waiting on the sound deadener to finish it up.

I used a hot razor and some industrial strength paint thinner to take the gum off the door...

Driver side door cleaned and ready to go...

Still have to do the passenger side...

This is a paper template I made to make the mdf mounting rings...

A shot of the mid and mdf mounting ring...wish I had something other than a cheapo jig saw...would make my cuts a lot more even.

This is some stuff I get at walmart in the craft dept....good for temp install and making cheap speaker gaskets.

More pics in a week which is when my raamatt comes...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif

Free ensolite and spray adhesive!

That guy rocks....

Well I am making progress but this is a serious pain in the *** and is also very time consuming...I've spent at least 5 solid hours and I think I'm about half way done...and the glue will not come off my hands....I could use paint thinner but i've had so much on my hands lastly that I don't care to use anymore.

Appears the most crucial thing I'm seeing is also the biggest PITA.. Getting the deadener on the inside of the outside wall.. I guess just small cut sizes through the holes and a good cooler to sit on full of beer and ice. I dread it myself, as I haven't done it before and since the car is a daily driver, I can't get in a situation where I can't drive the car for a day or so.. So install of deadener and speakers needs to be "expeditious". //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Good thread by the way.

Thanks...I hadn't gotten much response before this I think because I post at odd times when there is not a lot of site traffic....yeah I used a lot of large pieces which I slid in through the gap between the window and the top of the door...also I had a drumstick which helped alot in pushing the deadener into the gaps and channels..and yeah beer is a BIG part of this type of work...my stomach can attest to that this morning //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif I've been driving around for a week or so with the door panels flapping around in the back seat...I hope this project comes out good because fawk, this is a lot of work and expense...

I've been rolling with no interior door panels for weeks *laughs* That is how you deaden when you are too busy to do it all in a few days and daily drive the car //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I just have a seat...

Missing a-pillars, most of the dash, door panels, passenger seat, jump seat, most of the interior trim...

It's all part of it.

I guess so.. Don't know if I can separate the controls from the door panel though.. I'll find out when I get in there I guess. It will probably be one of those projects when I can actually get a whole day to just GET IT DONE..

So about all the stuff I can do ahead of time, like sizing up speakers and doing the baffle/spacers and tweeter installs, and maybe even the wiring, I'll probably try to do in chunks ahead of time.

ALMOST have my 2-way setup decided on... Seas tweets, mids still up in the air.. Seas, Peerless, Vifa, who knows... just good DIY drivers.. no passive x-over needed, so that's one less thing to worry about in the door install.. yay.. just some good 4 conductor wiring.. maybe canare 4S11 or something similar.. maybe some Tributaries SP6BW (50% silver plated strands.. Sounds awesome!)

Four lines in one cable twisted, +-+- for two separate connections... so essentially you can biamp or biwire with it. Also called quad pattern.

In other words, tweeter and mid could run off of one run of cable sleeved all the way to the amp channels.

However for car audio, I see a bug here.. You'd have to split the line as your drivers are possible over a foot apart.. so it kills the benefit of having the single sleeve unless you could use other sleeving/wrap for the runs inside the door I guess once you break off the two runs.

Oh.. also this would be an idea for a door install with two drivers in the door (Active components, no passive in the link).
