Doesn't crackling sound mean speaker is bad?

The mid driver on the driver side of my MB Quart Q series has a crackling sound on certain notes. Most of the time I'll hear it but on some songs I can't even tell. Does it mean I have to replace it? I've popped the door panel and see the driver is playing just fine. When I press the driver in with my fingers I can still hear sound and the crackling goes away.

measure the voice coil resistance to find out if there is any damage.

to me it sounds like you are hearing tweeter distortion. turn your gain down and see if it goes away

^^ this, or try swap your rca's (left and right) on your amp (if you have one), if the sound starts to come from the other speaker then the problem is in the signal and not the speakers.

look closely at the surround and where it connects to the cone and basket. The surround can separate and then the speaker makes noise due to being unbalanced. Can be fixed with a medicine syringe and silicone making a small bead on that seam (entire circumference)

Or loose mounting screws.
